Freight Traffic goes past a freight rail station on the way out of town

For some reason, depending on the location of my freight rail station, my freight traffic will drive right passed the station and straight out of town.  The station is obviously closer, but nevertheless the traffic drives right by.  The station is next to the rail and the road.

Also, is there a mod which allows freight traffic from one city to enter another.  Ultimately, i'm trying to get freight traffic from other cities into my seaport to go on to better and bigger things.

Freight traffic is implemented  in Sc4 from factory out of the map - no deliveries, no transit traffic. By this it uses always the shortest way. A sea harbour btw. functions like a neighbour connections as it offers a way out of the map for the freight.

there is a mod called the traffic control pack and it allows you to plop a road segment that halts freight traffic. so if you placed them on the appropriate roads you could theoretically force industrial production to use rail depots or select streets only..

Freight doesn't transfer between cities. Once it's 'out of town' it's done; it won't enter a city

One of my pet peeves.  Apparently, talking to the knowledgable people in the NAM team, it would take a major overhaul of the city/region data base structure in the .exe to allow freight to pass.  The game is about going to work, so the freight idea is a decoration at just makes factories and farms prettier.

If it were up to me, the freight would pass between cities until it found a sink of some kind.  This probably means something like a distribution center where the freight could be broken down on to other conveyances and dissipated into the city, or encounter a sea port for shipment out of the region, or an airport with an air freight depot.

Doesn't seem like much of a change, but I assure you as a programmer/analyst, this could easitly take up many $$ (time is money).  Just getting the specifications correct without messing up anything else is a rather large job.

The only answer to all of this is to turn the whole program over to the Free Software Foundation and let the community have a go at it.  EA's accounting people won't allow such an outrage, so only a full-scale bankruptcy of EA is likely to make any change even possible.  You simply don't give away money producing assets, even if the money is now small.  Since EA has ceased any activity other than weak marketing on SimCity 4, I am sure they still make a small profit from it.

Thanks for the insight.  Glad to know I'm not the only one who feels that way : 2.gif.
