Laptop shuts off while playing Sc4

Hello,

To start all my specs are below. And now for my problem. I have not played for a few months but recently started again. I’ve never had a problem before. When playing the game it starts fine. I get to region mode then ctrl, alt, delete and shut down one of the processors. I load up a city and start zoning or building transportation and then game crashes and shuts down my laptop and I need to reboot. Sometimes it happens when I am scrolling across the city, sometimes it happens when building a road and sometimes when I am zoning.

 

I had the NAM that came out in May. Thought that was it and tried the new NAM in August. Ran cleanitol and nothing seems to work. I have a lot in my plugins folder. I thought I have managed it pretty well but obviously I now have some sort of conflict and I don’t know where to start or how to resolve it.

 

Any help is greatly appreciated.

You can try:

%Removing all plugins, start a new city, and see if the crash still occurs

%Don't set affinity to one processor (unless the game crashed before when you didn't set affinity)

%Stopping all other processes like virus scans, updaters, etc. before starting the game

%Making sure the page file is user managed and static (min and max size is the same) at a high amount (4092 or more)

%Updating (or downgrading) your video card drivers to one that runs Simcity 4 well. Look in [this thread] for some suggestions

To shut down your laptop is not likely caused by "normal" SC4 issues. I'm guessing that SC4 is causing your laptop to overheat and the safety mechanism shuts it off. A CTD is about the worst that can happen from SC4 issues (at least directly)

Thanks for the replies. It looks like this is an overheating issue. Never had that problem in the past. Tried different cities, no plugins and still shuts down. I let the laptop cool off for awhile and it seems to be fine for an hour or two of playing.

There are some laptop coolers. It is a base with +2cm of with with two fans. It might help you with overheating.
