I heard that they have come out with a new city building game. From the trailer, it seems like there is actually a set goal(unlike SC4). The graphics look nice, and I am curious to know what the gameplay is like. Leave your ideas and thoughts about the game here in this thread.

From what was originally said and shown in the previews months beforehand, I thought it was going to be a city-builder. From just recently playing it, I can tell you it's not. It's not like the previews where you see your city expand when you click expand and see the aftermath consequences such as brown-outs after you execute that action. As masochist said, it's more of a city management game where you just make decisions on a prebuilt city.

It's like a glorified minigame. I couldnt take anymore after 20 minutes of reading articles I did not much care for. I'd even prefer to play -choke- Societies!

IIRC, the trailers didn't really advertise it as a city simulator. Basically, you had a city and had to fix problems as it grew: replacing infrastructure, fix industries, make new energy sources, and all that.

Graphics aren't even that good (the cool cities in the trailer? Real city video)

~ COMING SOON! Exciting new projects! ~

Letdown..

though mind you in fairness IBM wouldn't make something like this without using it as an opportunity to advertise its services (I tried it yesterday).

I was going to play it until it asked me for my name, phone number, address, and all that. I'm glad I just closed the window and read this topic. I didn't really expect anything good, much less a good city-sim from IBM, after all.

I wouldn't really call it a "game", even "serious game" seems like a bit of a stretch. It's more of an interactive questionnaire I suppose?

You start off by deciding whether you want to focus on Water, Banking, Retail or Energy. After that, you get presented with a drawing of a city and icons that indicate if your customer needs help with something. You click on the icon, and you get a description of the problem and three choices on how you want to meet your customer's needs. For example, there was a power outage and the power company didn't know about it until the customer's started calling in. You get three choices, each costing a certain number of credits, and depending on which answer you choose, you get a certain number of credits back, and this leads to the next question when you end your turn. In the case I just mentioned, you either invest in better customer care, give your customers a price cut, or switch to digital power meters. If you choose digital power meters, then in the next turn you'll be asked how to deal with all the data your customer is receiving.
