I've finally sat down and made a BAT thread.  I believe the name is more than adequate.

Anyway, I taught myself to BAT a couple years ago (quite badly, though) and just a couple days ago, I decided to try again.  I made a couple ugly, ugly highway signs for my main city but they... worked and I managed to actually make them look vaguely nice ingame.

I might even try to make a building one of these days.

I'll put up pictures of my various projects soon, but till then, a question:

1. How can I make a cylinder go horizontally in gmax?

How can you make a cylinder go horizontally? You could draw it in the "left" or "front" viewports, or you can simply use the rotate tool on one that is standing upright. Enter 90 in either X or Y (when in the perspective or top viewport) in the boxes at the bottom of the screen while the object is selected and you are using the rotate tool.

...oh. Probably could have thought that out.

I'll put up pics of my latest attempt later today, but for now, a question not-so-related to BAT: Is there anywhere other than the STEX where I can download the NDEX skyscrapers? It's almost impossible to download from here.

Due respect, but is this going to be another BAT thread where there are no BATs?

I cannot fathom why people would start a BAT thread to "announce" they are starting to BAT, rather than showing pictures of what they're working on...if there's nothing to look at, critique, or review in the first couple of posts, I write it off as another "BAT tourist" and never bother entering a thread again.

Post your work. Get feedback. Apply feedback.

That's how it works, folks. 4.gif

I had actually just sat down to post these when I saw your post... 3.gif

BATtempt 1: A sign made up of two boxes and two cylinders.  At least I figured out how to texture it.

BATtempt 2: Another sign, this time overhead, made up of five cylinders and four boxes.  This one took me a while.

BATtempt 3: I'm working on a small, basic, house in the Euro tileset.  Haven't got the scaling quite right, I've been testing it ingame and in LotEditor, but it's almost the right size.  Is there a way I can get the textures off the Maxis roofs and walls?

Screengrabs of the preview renders will tell us more, since it will show how things look in-game. The perspective window, while interesting, never quite gives us the same information.

For Maxis textures, they're included with gmax - in the gmax folder, under Gamepacks, there is a folder called Textures, which includes a bunch of textures apparently used (or created by) Maxis...there are some roof textures, concrete, HVACs, and even a glass texture...

Right, I'll take pics of the preview render next time.

    Thanks for the textures heads-up.
