The diatonic scale (well tempered scale).  Before that there was only modal church music and the Greek pentatonic scale.  Hard to write music with only five notes.

The symbol zero '0'.  Without this, you would still need a mathematical genius to do long division.

This expression contains all of fundamental mathematics in one place.  The base of natural logarithms, the fundamental imaginary square root of -1, the ratio of the diameter to the circumference of a circle, the multiplicative identity and the additive identity.  Best part of it all, is that is has been proven, so it is a law, not a theorem.

A favorite invention... It's hard to pick a favorite, but if I had to narrow it down I would say:

Coffee: what can I say, I'm completely addicted

FLAC: I no longer have to listen to crappy mp3 files. I don't care what anybody says, I CAN tell the difference!

X-Box Live: cause there's nothing better than kickin your friends butt in MW2 from 2000 miles away!
