A. PROLOGUE

The dog (Canis lupus familiaris) is a domesticated form of the gray wolf, a member of the Canidae family of the order Carnivora. The term is used for both feral and pet varieties. The domestic dog has been one of the most widely kept working, hunting and companion animals in human history.

The dog quickly became ubiquitous across world cultures, and was extremely valuable to early human settlements. For instance, it is believed that the successful emigration across the Bering Strait might not have been possible without sled dogs.

Wolves, and their dog descendants, would have derived significant benefits from living in human camps—more safety, more reliable food, lesser caloric needs, and more chance to breed. They would have benefited from humans’ upright gait that gives them larger range over which to see potential predators and prey, as well as color vision that, at least by day, gives humans better visual discrimination. Camp dogs would also have benefitted from human tool use, as in bringing down larger prey and controlling fire for a range of purposes.

Humans would also have derived enormous benefit from the dogs associated with their camps. For instance, dogs would have improved sanitation by cleaning up human waste and food scraps. Dogs may have provided warmth, as referred to in the Australian Aboriginal expression “three dog night” and they would have alerted the camp to the presence of predators or strangers, using their acute hearing to provide an early warning.

Anthropologists believe the most significant benefit would have been the use of dogs' sensitive sense of smell to assist with the hunt. The relationship between the presence of a dog and success in the hunt is often mentioned as a primary reason for the domestication of the wolf, and a 2004 study of hunter groups with and without a dog gives quantitative support to the hypothesis that the benefits of cooperative hunting was an important factor in wolf domestication.

The cohabitation of dogs and humans would have greatly improved the chances of survival for early human groups, and the domestication of dogs may have been one of the key forces that led to modern humans.

Anthropologists Tacon and Pardoe argue that the effects of human-canine cohabitation on humans would have been profound, and hypothesize that some of the effects could have been moving from scavenging to large game hunting, the establishment and marking of territories, living in optimally sized social groups, hunting/working in synchronized teams, and negotiating partnership bonds.

The human-dog partnership set both species on a new evolutionary course.

 

The Grand Duchy of TERRA CANIS, the Land of the Dog, is meant to highlight  the optimal collaboration of humans and dogs, especially in its’ beginnings, in an overall amusive and funny way, therefore, playing with the distinctive role models a little bit and maybe turning them upside down. On the other hand, I would like to pay tribute to a great fellow and soul, my dog Aliki, in just a decent way.

A great ‘Thank you very, very much’ goes to Bruce, the one and only Schulmanator, who has become a friend of mine, for inspiring me with his great work on Schulmania, his moral support so far and his outstanding design on the TC emblem. TERRA CANIS, represented by His Grand Duke Aliki, is looking forward to a fruitful team-play with Schulmania and Her Supreme Wirdle.

I am pleased to see Terra Canis has arrived. I am sure Aliki will be a great friend to the Supreme and her leaders. Together, they will defeat all fleas and ticks and usher in a peaceful realm where all quadripeds are fed and admired by swarms of fawning humans. It'll be great!

1. The Island Lodge

… and it was then when General Aliki, Grand Duke of Terra Canis and head of the Austrian Canine Joined Taskforce, realized the beauty of his Island Lodge.

From there, unobstructed views over the sea towards the nearby islands pleased his eye.

His daily governmental routine felt almost forgotten with the close water, steadily ready to be explored and offering plenty of possibilities for an excellent training.

The General was more than sure that he would need it in the near future.

However, he was not alone in his hidden Island Lodge, as both of his servants were constantly and instantly by his side whenever he needed a delicious breakfast or an exclusive dinner,

a casual guided swim

or exploration of the shores and waters aside, a tender ruffling or a protection from militant wasps.

Also, there were his guards most of which disguised as fluffy toys, placed at strategic positions in his vicinity permanently guarding the small mansion.

Although the menace and dangers of Queensferry were far away, it was better to have these guards on duty.

One never knew.

The smell of fresh salvia reached his nose while the General was thinking about Schulmania, and how Her Mighty Supreme Wirdle would oppose the evil enemy, Queensferry.

General Aliki kept thinking about further strategies to give Her Supreme Wirdle every possible support in Her and Her peoples’ struggle against the omnipresent evilness.

Soon, he would return to Alikipolis, the capital of Terra Canis, to arrange a meeting with his allies, but until then he relished his sojourn in distant lands.

Oh, I know the Schulminions are feeling great relief now as the General is refreshed and rested with his much and very well deserved and needed vacation at his Lodge. His human servants were careful to keep any but the most pressing of needs in the background so that the General could rest and renew himself. Seeing him looking so thoughtful, (should any of the Felineocracy see this splendid portrait of the General) will instill a sense of ease and safety.

Long live General Aliki.

1.1.  THE GUARDS

Securing, protecting and responding- these are the vital tasks for every guard.

As Grand Duke Aliki stayed abroad only with his two servants, the aforementioned duties were an important part of the protocol.

Moreover, the guards- being camouflaged as toys- were ALWAYS on duty, even though it was sometimes difficult to spot them out.

'Der Esel', well hidden in a tree:

'Das Hendl' seems to be unspectacular in the green...

... but is a technological masterpiece!

Comfortably strechted on a stone, also 'Das Schaf' is on duty:

... is always alerted!

The shore is secured by 'Die Schnecke'...

... that always has her eyes open.

Naturally, TERRA CANIS is not only about photos, but also about the game.

Thus, the Island Lodge of Grand Duke Aliki has been constructed in SC4.

He has a great lodge... the perfect place for someone of his regal stature to retire to contemplate matters of great importance, such as which toy is the squeakiest or when is dinner time. I am sure he returns to his castle rested and refreshed after every visit to his lodge. I hope his staff prepares his favorite meal for dinner and his toys are providing him the spirited contests he enjoys. Let's hope Das Hendl and the rest are up to the challenge!

I was a bit skeptical about what this CJ was really going to be about, but then I saw the Simcity images and that path...is, BEAUTIFUL. It's i dare say perfectly done, I had to do a double take. You have a talent for flora and props. Great work!

Schulmanator       His Grand Duke would like to assure you that, although staying abroad and enjoying the Dalmatian

                                 island, every single decision had to be wisely taken, no matter if it came to superb meals or squeaky

                                 toys. Truly, the stay abroad was more casual than the normal protocol, but nevertheless his servants

                                 were obliged to follow every single step of its' procedure. 'Das Hendl' was one of the best guards at

                                 the Island Lodge due to its' telescopic head

                                 The General himself submits His best regards to Her Supreme Wirdle and is looking forward to

                                 further diplomatic contact, in order to establish tight diplomatic relationships and, thus, assisting

                                 Her in Her glorious future counterstrike against the evil Empire. Furthermore, Aliki is pleased to

                                 announce that a site has already been reserved for a future embassy in the nearest vicinity to His

                                 Palace.

                                 With the best and hearty regards we remain in awe.

Archean                 Well, honestly, I can imagine But as you see, it is not only about RL photos, as these wouldn't have

                                fit the spirit of this site. After my - personally, I think successful - NYC CJ, I just wanted to do

                                something different, without re-creating an entire city... the amicable connections and contacts to

                                Bruce were a good boost for that. This, therefore, allows me to play a little bit with the overall thinking

                                about dogs and their owners, and be assured that although this CJ seems to glorify dogs (well, it

                                does, but in a normal, anyway very estimating way... ) , it is nothing but humanizing them, as they are

                                individuals.

                                Well, I do hope you keep enjoying it; as for the ploppable flora: I recommend that you

                               check out 'The different looks of NYC' as this is a good showcase of my LOTting skills and such....

It certainly looks like a great place to visit. I can just imagine myself there now...

well... by the look on the crab's face you can see that he works undercover... you can tell... hahahaha and the dove... well it seems lost... I dont know its got that weird look on its face... watch it closely... it might be a spy... hahahaa of course following the roles on the cj... dont think Im crazy!!!! ohh and by the way.. I like this CJ Rene... its different, and it allows you to play more and re create less... cause lets face it.. your NYC is awesome... but I can imagine how hard sometimes it might be for you to re create something to make it look real and having to be worry about the final result... In here, well you can have fun and use your imagination for whatever you wanna create.. keep it up man!
