Impossible to play on a new Computer

Hello guys,

I have a big problem here. I play CXL since october 09 on my old pc (PIV 3.2ghz, 4 go of ram, Windows XP, Geforce 8600gt). I never experienced any problem except extreme lagging with big cities.

I  change my Pc and it's now nearly impossible to play without crashing or severe graphics glitchs.

Here's my machine :

i7-860 2.8ghz

Windows 7

8 go of ram

ATI Radeon 5770 hd

When i load one of my cities, it's ok till the game is fully load (a.k. all trees are appeared on the map). After the complete load, all the graphics of the game became suddenly very ugly (brown boxes, shadow peoples, no more front on my buildings even in the most close-up view). And, if a took a picture (Shift F11 and Even F11), or want to save the game to come back to the planet menu, the game crashes instantly and give me this message :

DBGHELP.DLL not found!

Help please. This game is one of my best and i cannot play anymore!!!!!!!

what i don't understand is why doesen't cities xl make use of quad core, game only uses 1 core my computer has 4 cores intel core i7 x 2 each core cpu 965 @ 3.20ghz each thats 8 cpu x 965 @ 3.20 ghz, game only uses first core. My system dell xps 730x 6gb ram, 2x ati raedon hd 4870 x2 6gb memory, almost 2 tb storage space. my city has approx 15,000 ppl and first core is maxed @ 100% usage the 3 others 0 usages, i can't play game either without crashing/ graphics glitches and have tried all settings but same answer = first core maxed 3 others 0

    Nope.

Citiesxl.exe functions aren't multi-threaded. CitiesXL2011 has got some features that supports multiple threads... but not everything!

Here is how you most likely can resolve the issue:

While running the game, go into your task manager, find the game's process and right click on it, change the "Affinity" setting to Core 0 as its a single-threaded game, if you continue to have issues; switch it to Core 2 or 3

Most games do not take advantage of quad or hexacore systems; most being developed now take dual-core advantage [including Windows 7]

The Intel Core i7 965 has 4 physical cores, Intel brought back hyperthreading technology which gives you a total of 8 logical cores on a bus speed of 6.4GT/s; the system may have more cores; but more cores are useless unless the program takes use of them.

Aceli: your issue is most likely the same as the OP or your HDD transfer rate; I assume your drive is SATA2; if it is so then it's not your transfer rate.

Cm39: your computer is fine, it can run Crysis.
