Hello, everyone! After some weeks of being inactive, I'm back with a new journal! This one will not be like any of my other CJs, nor like any other in the CXL journal section. It'll be a mix of asking for feedback (It's my first try on skyscrapers), interactive CJ and normal CJ. I'll try to make less grid, more diversity and less repetition.

To begin, here's an aerial of what I've got so far (Click on the images for full size):

cxlscreenshotmattesburg.jpg

Don't mind the Unskilled Workers lots. They're placeholders 'till I figure what to place there. You can also spot where a park will be.

cxlscreenshotmattesburg.jpg

Traffic view... Not very interesting with 0 population...34.gif

image1ns.jpg

A little map over downtown Google Maps-style I made. Expect a few more maps like this (or better).

cxlscreenshotmattesburg.jpg

And (sorry, I couldn't resist) postcard view.

So, what do you think of the road layout? Good? Bad? Post your opinion here!

Jesse Swiss: Thanks! I will first show developments at downtown on the next update. I expect about one million residents - there's plenty of space as you can see.

    updatemattesburgh.jpg

The park in the middle I showed in the previous update has been built. Its official name is Chatham Park. I tried to detail it as much as possible.

Here are some shots of the newly developed park:

    cxlscreenshotmattesburg.jpg

    An general overview.

    cxlscreenshotmattesburg.jpg

    Postcard view...

    cxlscreenshotmattesburg.jpg

    A gate to the park.

    cxlscreenshotmattesburg.jpg

    A way crossing the park.

    cxlscreenshotmattesburg.jpg

This is Merchant Row, one of the ways frequented by grocers and butchers. It's a popular place for buying food.

    cxlscreenshotmattesburg.jpg

Can you see that billboard popping out there? Putting them along roads is still OK, but this... 28.gif (3.gif)

    cxlscreenshotmattesburg.jpg

This is Johnson Way, with lots of sculptures shown there.

    cxlscreenshotmattesburg.jpg

    Merchant Row at midnight.

Hope you enjoyed! Update 3 will feature, as I mentioned before, developments on Downtown.

Good job, I hope next time we'll see some buildings. Then everything looks way cooler. Also, I hope this journal will last a longer time than the others did. 4.gif

    Hey everyone!

I just wanted you to know that I've already started adding buildings and I figured that it'll take a while to complete downtown, so expect an late update.

    Cheers,

If I may answer that for you, you can build roads the way you want your paths to look like and then you fill the space around it. When that's done uou delete the roads and fill the space left between (where the roads were) with whatever you want 9.gif

My feedback on the park would be that it looks a bit "foresty". It's too much trees. A park needs open grass areas. I think that would make the park look even more realistic. 2.gif

Additionally, I would recomend downloading this mod by Karaaib that adds the sculptures and fountains as individual buildings. It is very useful for parks: mine for example. I made the gates with that mod.

    Damastius: It will...I hope!2.gif

ludmamm: Of course you can! Thanks!

    updatemattesburgh.jpg

Okay, this is no normal update; just a poll I set up after ludmamm's suggestion. I've got two terrains, so you can choose between A:

    cxlscreenshotmattesburg.jpg

    or B:

    cxlscreenshotmattesburg.jpg

Please vote on the poll! It will close August 13.

I would say B but in general I'd rather see the buildings first, followed by parks...

Good idea with the poll, but what I meant was that you have both open grass areas and more "dens" areas with tree's... hope im not too much of a whiner "/

jazyje: Thanks for voting! I will show the buildings soon, I think it turned out pretty nice.

ludmamm: Thanks - and that would require redoing the park completely to do it properly, I could, but... 23.gif

Animaniacs: What are you talking about? 47.gif My city is currently not avaliable for downlad, If you mean that.

    bannermattesburgh.jpg

Okay, I am finally undeading this thread to post the poll's results. 4 days too late, meh. 30.gif

Which terrain should I put in for the park?

    Terrain A
    IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
    3 votes
    Terrain B
     IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
    5 votes

So terrain B won for 2 votes. Thanks for voting! 48.gif

    updatemattesburgh.jpg

Some time ago I promised an Downtown update. The whole downtown was taking too much time, so I decided to finally write an update while it's not completely finished. This one will showcase lower downtown, where the most highrises are located.

    Some pics:

    cxlscreenshotmattesburg.jpg

The skyline from one of the nearby hills.

    cxlscreenshotmattesburg.jpg

This is one of the best views of downtown (if not the best).

    cxlscreenshotmattesburg.jpg

Carper Blvd. is much like Wall St. in popularity. The city's most important buildings are located here.

    cxlscreenshotmattesburgc.jpg

An aerial view of Mattesburgh. Planes coming to and from Mattesburgh Int'l Airport (coming soon!) see this view frequently.

    cxlscreenshotmattesburg.jpg

    Another aerial.

    cxlscreenshotmattesburg.jpg

The majestic skyscrapers tower upon the streets and plazas in Mattesburgh.

    cxlscreenshotmattesburgv.jpg

The Mattesburgh International Conference Center (MICC) is the biggest conference center in the whole country!

    cxlscreenshotmattesburgs.jpg

This is the Mattesburgh Museum of Science-Related Research (MMSRR), showing off current tech advances. The current showcase is "From the Wright plane to Boeing 747: Advances in flying machines" featuring some famous planes and lots of info about planes.

    cxlscreenshotmattesburg.jpg

Chatham Park offers some nice views.

    cxlscreenshotmattesburg.jpg

A skyline pic. Click to enjoy it full-size!

    cxlscreenshotmattesburgc.jpg

    Mattesburgh from the river.

    cxlscreenshotmattesburg.jpg

Illwood Park is another small park at downtown.

    cxlscreenshotmattesburg.jpg

An overview of Illwood park and surroundings

    cxlscreenshotmattesburg.jpg

Ulmanet Headquarters is the tallest building in Mattesburgh. Ulmanet is the biggest online shopping website in the world.

    cxlscreenshotmattesburg.jpg

    The nighttime skyline of Mattesburgh.

    cxlscreenshotmattesburg.jpg

    Carper Blvd. after midnight.

    cxlscreenshotmattesburg.jpg

Sunset at the rooftop of a building. It is very nice there these hot summer days...

    cxlscreenshotmattesburg.jpg

Moolshing market is always bustling with merchants and their products.

    cxlscreenshotmattesburg.jpg

And to end this update, an postcard view of upper downtown.

Hoped you liked this update - don't forget to post your opinions!

Trabucco: Thanks! If you mean that, there will be suburbs on the other side of the river, and consequently, a bridge... 4.gif

Moloo: I know, but I wanted that enormous skyscrapers feeling. 9.gif

    Roger51: Thanks! 5.gif

    Jesse Swiss: Thank you! 1.gif

Maraus: Thank you! 9.gif I hope I "finish" the city someday...

    Samerton: Thank you! 4.gif

All the offices were slowly dying off due to the few Business Hotels! So an contest has been hold and the winners were two famous hotel brands: Novotel and NH. Construction started quckly and now they're finished! Aditionally a Kodak Theatre has been built. Some pics:

    cxlscreenshotmattesburg.jpg

The Novotel building as seen from a path at Chatham park.

    cxlscreenshotmattesburg.jpg

A view of the hotel from the sidewalk.

    cxlscreenshotmattesburgo.jpg

This is the NH hotel as seen from the road. It's situated next to the Heblem Building - An historically important building.

    cxlscreenshotmattesburg.jpg

This is the newly opened Kodak Theatre.  The premiere of the film "Dant Go Naw!" (Mattesburgh language for Don't Go Now!) will air here.

    cxlscreenshotmattesburg.jpg

The night is cold  - the children are sleeping right now, while adults leave to have "some fun"

    cxlscreenshotmattesburg.jpg

Trees move quietly while everyone returns home.

    cxlscreenshotmattesburg.jpg

The tall building in the middle is the Weilgann Inc. Headquarters. Even at night, it's full of employees working.

    cxlscreenshotmattesburg.jpg

This is the wealthiest building in town. Hitzerlich Condos has the richest people of Mattesburgh hanging out at the lots of restaurants in it.

    cxlscreenshotmattesburg.jpg

This is the Wessley, Inc. Global Headquarters. It is located in the middle of downtown, offering a great view of the suburbs (not made yet =P) to the workers.

    cxlscreenshotmattesburg.jpg

Grüngrass Gebau, generally called the GG Building, is very old and has been converted into a cultural venue.

    cxlscreenshotmattesburgw.jpg

Harper St. on a quiet midday.

    cxlscreenshotmattesburg.jpg

Rosslyn Rd. on a deserted Sunday.

The city currently, as seen from an airplane expedition.

Hope you enjoyed! Don't forget to click the images for full size and post your opinions! They mean a lot to me!

    Roger51: Yup! Thanks!

marmeladu: Smaller buildings you say? Read this update to see them! =)

    Jesse Swiss: Thanks!

    repliesmattesburgh.jpg

Guess what? I completely finished the Downtown area! I added some medium density aswell to make it blend with the smaller buildings. It reminds me of my hometown, Madrid!

    Here are some pics:

    cxlscreenshotmattesburg.jpg

An overview of the whole Downtown area, now completely finished.

    cxlscreenshotmattesburg.jpg

A quiet street at Upper Downtown.

    cxlscreenshotmattesburg.jpg

Another of the lots of quiet streets in the area.

    cxlscreenshotmattesburg.jpg

At this street there are some supermarkets, making it a bit busier.

    cxlscreenshotmattesburg.jpg

This street is a nice area to rest, an excellent location for a bank and some offices.

    cxlscreenshotmattesburgs.jpg

This pic really reminds me of a street of Madrid at night. Chatham Park is at the right side of the road.

    cxlscreenshotmattesburg.jpg

This is Carper Blvd. at one of its quieter ends. This night hour is perfect for crime, so watch out!

    cxlscreenshotmattesburgh.jpg

Bitrade is one of the biggest retail brands in Mattesburgh. Be sure not to miss the sales!

    cxlscreenshotmattesburg.jpg

This is Gwail Park, another popular spot for merchants.

    cxlscreenshotmattesburg.jpg

The skyline of Mattesburgh as seen from the road leading to it.

    cxlscreenshotmattesburg.jpg

Roselynd High School (RHS) recenly opened here. Finally the teenagers in Mattesburgh have a decent place to learn!

    cxlscreenshotmattesburgt.jpg

The Mattesburgh Police and Law Enforcement (MPLE) has its headquarters here.

    cxlscreenshotmattesburgq.jpg

Lower Downtown as seen from a rooftop.
