I have just recently "moved" to using Mac and bought SimCity 4 Rush Hour and so far it's actually working better than my PC version (needless to say I was excited to play the game without it crashing every 5 min) but what I never did with my PC verison was add any buildings.

    Now I want to. LOL.

My new mac is a 13 inch MacBook Pro with Snow Leopard.

I've read ALOT (if not all, I've tried very hard) of the articles, posts, etc on how to add extras to your Sim City 4. Buuut I still don't get it. (Let me reassure you feeling like this after a few hours reading posts every night for three days, not cool..lol)

So what I'm wondering is, do I just download the files and put them in the correct folders then turn the game on or is there something else to be done?

    Thanks!

This board is so nice and have great players! SimCity 4 FOREVER! 9.gif

You will run across a whole new set of issues running on MAC. I don't use a MAC to run SC4, but I'd suggest you take on the MAC forums for the best help. MAC operation has it's own special set of "considerations". Good luck. hmmm.. looking at the forums, I don't see the MAC one listed.. perhaps it was dropped after the ST "reorg" a while back. I don't know what happened to it.. aha.. this seems to be it... guess I had it blocked

Okay, well SC4BOY didn't exactly hit the nail on the head with his answer.

There is very little difference between playing simcity on PC and Mac. There is only one file that can't run on a mac, and while not all nightlighting for custom content works, there are efforts of getting it fixed, and I am shortly going to open a thread to ask for requests for nightlighting fixes.

As with installing custom content, there are a few things that you need to do. Most of what you will download should be in .zip files, these should unzip once downloaded and you'll probably just seem them as folders, if not then you will need to unzip them yourself. Once you have just a folder move this to your plugins folder, which will be in this directory, Documents > SimCity 4 > Plugins.

Sometimes you will download a .exe, this is an installer that only works on windows, however there are ways to open these. If you read this article it will give you a link to download filejuicer. With file juicer yo just need to drag the .exe file into the application and it will open up the .exe and give you the files that you need. These then just go into the plugins folder.

Thats pretty much it for custom buildings, if you have anymore questions then feel free to ask.

Welcome to SC4 for Mac. Yes, it is just as easy to install plug-ins (including buildings) on a Mac. Just use the your Home Folder's Documents/Sim City 4/Plugins folder to store them and they should work just fine.

The only real issue encountered with the Mac version is that is was originally written for the PowerPC chip (G4/G5) and modern Macs run on Intel chips, which don't speak the same language, nor do they read the in the same direction. So some things don't always work the same. For example, if you install the Universal Binary patch on an Intel machine, the colors for route tracing get all screwed up, because the order of the color's values are in the wrong order for Intel.

There are also some minor issues related to graphics, but there are some ways to fix them that are discussed in other threads here and over at SC4D.
