Creating a real town with custom BATs or LOTs

    Hello all,

I am planning to create a real town by using Google Earth. I want to put down places such as restaurants

or stores (ones that I can download from here).

    Questions:

    1. If I put down those places, will they stay there or be abandoned?

    2. What is difference between "Grow" and "Plop"?

    3. If I share my city file with anybody, will they be able to see custom items?

I am sure that I will have more further questions on that later.

    Thanks,

    THartmann9374

    1. they will stay there

    2. Plop is choose and paste where you want. Grow is a bit more random, you put down a commercial zone and commercial buildings develop there. You can't choose what to put there.

    3. If you share your city file through a city journal of course they will be able to see custom items. Your aren't allowed to put your city up for downloading on the STEX though.

    1. Plopped residential buildings will get abandoned due to a game bug which hasn't been solved, but you still can plop them and don't let the time run. On the other hand, commercial buildings will be functional and they'll get abandoned the regular way, for example, if they haven't enough customers.

    2. The difference between growable and ploppable is that growable buildings are the ones you install on your Plugins folder but will grow in your cities when the conditions allow them, just like an in-game building would do. Otherwise, you can find ploppable stuff on your Landmarks menu (sometimes on other menues, though) and you can put them on your cities when you want.

    3. Sharing SC4 cities with custom content is really difficult because your partner has to have EXACTLY the same plugins you have in order to see everything OK. If a dependancy is missing, your partner will see a nice brown box... Shared cities are usually "vanilla", which means they have no plugins installed, ensuring that all players can run the city without a problem.

    EDIT: tlueker has been faster...
