When AVG did its virus scan it found an installer file infected. Is this a trojan or just a false positive.4771840749_d96d39ca47_b.jpg

I use Trend Micro and I get messages from time to time when intalling that the program is attempting to change my Windows Explorer shell settings. Anyone know what this is about? Is it a problem?

This happens now and then.. they have never even one time been correct. I suggest you contact the maker/seller of your antivirus program and alert them to the issue so they can correct it.

It could be that AVG is picking up the simerlarity between  one Trojan which was wrote 2000-2010 and stateing NAM is written like that (In some parts).

I use AVG and this was the first time its ever ben marked as a virus and I've had the file since May.  I already deleted the file as I don't need it anymore. But I still have the scan log. Yeah it probably was a false positive as I haven't had any issus with viruses and the file was in the NAM setup folder.

If you need another anti-virus program for a check, I would recommend Malwarebytes Anti-malware, it is effective, and it is free (you can pay for an upgrade) and that is funny that AVG has picked something up (its used in FIRST for driver station laptops too, and there are a lot of different things on them somethimes), I have installed NAM while using different Anti-virus programs (Synantec, McAfee, Malwarebytes) and had no issues. It could be that something else is out in your pc, so it doesn't hurt to run a couple of scans.

Man, if NAM was a trojan, whoever did it would have a pretty huge botnet under their control. Simtrop been DDOS'd lately?

Are your virus definitions up to date? The reason I ask is because one of my previous antivirus programs would say that a virus was detected whenever I'd try to install something when the definitions were out of date. If your program keeps giving you grief, you can try Microsoft Security Essentials (free for Windows users), I have it on 1 of my computers and it works well, or if you want to pay for one, I'd recommend Norton 360 to anyone.
