    Small update on the nightlight:

    booktowernightlight2epo.jpg

The wooden panels are now showing and the sidewindows too...

Edit: a smaller version to see how it looks in zoom 5 so you don't have to zoom out the browser (TWrecks 2.gif )

    STRIKE! 4.gif

I just zoomed out in my browser to get the picture to show up what I'd see in game in zoom 4 and 5, and I love the lights. Good job!

The nightlights are perfect! Are you going to be lighting up the rest of the tower and base? I really do hope so, as the rest of it will look empty if you don't. But that is just my opinion.

@ mcarch: if the nightlight has to be realistic, it will only be this. I've seen the building a lot at night (we've all been students 2.gif ) and this is the only part that is lighted then. I agree with your opinion that it looks empty that way but it's a university-building... no students there during the night.

I'm still not sure what to do but after all my effort to make it realistic I think I'll go for just this nightlight (other lights wouldn't be so impressive as the look-out too).

There is a picture of it by night a few posts ago...

I was hoping to finish the Booktower before I left on holiday... but that won't happen.

I'll be out camping in the woods for 3 weeks but when I'm back, I'll finish the Bat, render it and post it on the Stex (somewhere begin september or else I was eaten by a bear 3.gif )

You can still post messages if you found something to improve (but please not to much, I'm returning from holiday, don't give me stress on my return 2.gif )

Here is the tower by day:

    booktowervoorvakantieda.jpg

And by night (the lighted windows of the lowrise are just a test, I'm not sure if they're going to stay):

As I remember , you have to "right click " on "perspective" in your view port, then choose "configure" option ( the last one on the list) , then select "2 lights" in  "default lighting"  option. Hope it helps!44.gif

    BTW: very good Bat!

My only suggestion is that you add some more roof junk. This building looks extremely good, and it has beautiful textures. Good work!

I've added a small side-entrance. It has curbed windows and a staircase... If I can add the same nightlights as on the tower it will look cool and make that side a little more colorfull at night:

    bijgebouwzonderramen.jpg

I still have to add the windows to it

This is a picture of the side-entrance as comparison:

Here is a nightlight pic with the side-entrance (it's a draft). I know that the roof isn't like on the real building but it wouldn't look good any other way...

This is a detail-pic of the entrance in gmax:

Looking good! But unfortunately it looks under scaled compared to the buildings surrounding it. I'm sure you can tell what I mean. I think it should be scaled up at about 133% with the scale tool. BTW, it looks like the building would be 7x2 lot right?

Sgt Pepper is right, but I would say that underscale is much worse than he suggests. It looks like it the whole zoom level to small, rather than just a little squashed (the problems normally remedied with 133% scale along Z axis).

I would say try for started to uniformly scale everything by 200%. At least, it may even need more...

I've already scaled it up by 133% (see page2) but I've also noticed that something was wrong (the 7stories-building behind it, is almost the same height).

Should I just make it higher, or scale the entire building (making it higher and longer)?

    It's now a 7x3 lot

Looking closer at the facade, the problem looks to be that the proportions are off, and there are bits of wall missing. I'd just look really carefully at the facade (maybe overlay a grid onto a photograph to help you judge it more objectively), and add in height where it belongs.

The horizontal scale is more or less correct though, so I wouldn't scale it horizontally, except to make it fit more snugly on a lot.

@ JasonCW: what do you mean with "bits of wall missing"?

I've scaled it to 200% vertical (so it is now twice it size in height). I'll export it again when I adjusted the bat

For example, on the 2nd floor, on your model, there is very little space below the windows.  However, on the actual building, there is a lot of space below the windows (it looks like the part below the window is the same height as the part above the window).  Likewise, on the ground floor, the grey part is actually quite a bit taller than how you have it in your model.  But also, in general, it seems like the windows themselves aren't tall enough.

So I would personally undo the 200% scale, and would just go through the building and add height to where it is missing, and I think afterwards there won't be a need for scaling.

@JasonCW: you're right... there was something wrong with the space between the windows and the small roof (I think I forgot to remember the perspective)...

I've rebuild that wall, adding more space below the windows. There is now an equal amount of space above and below the windows (the concrete rectangle below the windows on the second floor blocks a bit of that space but it's there 2.gif )

The lowrise is now a bit taller (about 120%)

    booktowerhigher2efloor.jpg

I'll make a draft export and see how it looks in the game

Here are the new (draft) ingame pics of the taller tower:

    booktowerday.jpg

    booktowernight.jpg

    booktowerdetail.jpg

I've got the feeling that the height seems to be OK now but I'm not so sure about the lenght of it.

    What do you think?

Yeah, I know Simfox... but with all the resizing (up, longer --> see previous posts)...

But I got it know... I'm making a draft export right now and I'll upload it as soon as its in the game

It's now 8 tiles long (with some space left and right), and 3 tiles wide.

    Here it is:

the concrete on the lower floor isn't showing (GMAX seems to do this some times) and the lot is a bit empty...

But the size seems to be OK now (compared to other buildings/objects in the game)

    booktower.jpg

Oh and I've changed the entrance (just next to the tower)... Until now I've been using a grey door but that isn't like the real entrance. So that's fixed too...
