Still don't get it

Every first day of the month, sims decide whether they should change their way of going to work. That's good, that way it only takes a month to see whether a bus stop will be used or not.

Now strangely, all sims in my city seem to like to use public transit the first month, and than refuse to use any form of public transit the other month. The month after that they all use public transit again, and the month after that they change again to cars only. The effects:

-One month there's a lot of polution, the other there is none.

-One month I barely make any money, the next month I get $4000 in my pocket.

-One month the roads are red because of the trafic, the other month they are green.

-One month the stations are fully occupied, the next month they are empty.

-And so on, and so on

Does anyone know why this is, did anyone experience this before and found a solution? I really hope so, as I'd like my public transit to be used every month.

Thank you in advance for your answer,

Bib-lost

P.S.: I have the Rush Hour expansion pack and the NAM as my only mod.

This sounds like a rather interesting problem.

I have never personally experienced this, but it could follow this path:

1. Sims take public transport, no traffic, crowded public transport.

2. The simulator, seeing there is no traffic, puts the Sims in cars to take advantage of this over the crowded public transport system.

3. All the Sims use their cars, high traffic, empty public transport.

4. The simulator, seeing there is high traffic, puts the Sims on public transport to take advantage of it being empty. And the cycle repeats from step 1.

I don't know what to recommend - when you installed the NAM, what simulator did you choose? That may have an effect.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

I honestly don't remember selecting a simulator. I remember chosing the Right Hand Drive because I'm European. Could you give an example of the differences between the simulators and where I can find my installed simulator?

You can find your simulator in the NAM folder. You will have to find the NAM folder first, though. 2.gif

Must be a glitch or you didn't install nam correctly

I found my NAM folder, but nowhere a mention of my simulator.

By the way, I discovered this problem isn't strictly every month. Sometimes it's 2 months with no public transit (let's call these A-months) and sometimes there are multiple months in a row with lots of public transit (B-months).

And sometimes, after an A-month, there's a balanced month, with a balanced amount of cars and public transit.

I really do not get the system 15.gif.

If you can't find it inside the NAM folder, it will probably be in the plugin folder (and this plugin folder isn't for the game, but another folder inside the NAM folder). If you really can't find the simulator, I think you will have to re-install the NAM to get one.

As for selecting a simulator, it will be discribed in the installation if you hover your mouse over the different kinds of options. However, it would be better to have someone post here what the differences of the simulators are.

I have not installed the latest NAM, but in the prior one it was in the main NAM folder (Network Add-on Mod) and had a form such as

    NetworkAddonMod_Traffic_Plugin_Z_Medium.dat

with the exact name determined by the simulation you chose. It IS possible to run it with NO simulation added in which case you will be running the SC4 default (or Maxis) simulation.

If you drop over to SC4D I believe the simulator is seperately available without doing the full NAM.. I believe it is in Z's support forum on the simulator. If you unzip it you would find some number of simulations to chose from.. simply put the one you wish to use into the above folder. It may be on the LEX too, but I haven't paid much attention to it.

No need to do that anymore - you can now get the latest version of the NAM Simulator (which is based on and is the successor to Simulator Z) from the NAM Traffic Subsystem, right here on the STEX.  It works with any version of the NAM, or even without the rest of the NAM.  Just install it, run the Traffic Simulator Configuration Tool, pick the capacity you want in the middle drop-down box, click Save, and then exit.  You'll be all set then. 4.gif
