Airport to service entire region?

Please excuse the possibly stupid questions, but I quit playing my game awhile ago because of boredom. Now after finding Simtropolis and the STEX, I am excited about playing again. I am new to these mods I am finding and feel like a newbie to the game all over again.

My plans are to make my entire region a huge metropolis, with city center in center tiles and making outer tiles each a suburb. Would like to make one tile a large airport. How can I get this one airport to service the entire region (but mainly downtown commercial district 2 or 3 tiles away)? Don't want to place small airports in various tiles and ruin the realism. Have a few airport pack mods (ACB and RMIP), but some of them are confusing to use and some are not transit enabled (eye-candy only).

The only tutorials I can find on airports are how to build them, not how they actually work.

Latest NAM installed along with RHW, NWM, CAM.

The eye candy airports do not service the people in your cities. You can, however, find airport bus stops (such as the one here). This is considered by the game to be an airport, however it only looks like a bus stop in game - the idea being people can "catch a bus" from there to you pretty RMIP airport in another town.

Thanks, CHR. I'll try it out. Huge learning curve with all the new items I am getting.

I tnink you would find it useful to visit the AC Team Place at SC4 Devotion (AC=Airport Consortium).

So, what I am understanding, if these 'bus stops' are doing the 'work' of the airports, I can make my airport from eye candy pieces to get the look I want and it won't matter that the airport is non-functional. Is this right?

Your REAL airport will have "functionality" through a traffic control tower...but yes essentially you are placing an "airport" in every tile for game purpose, but visually you'll be able to have one or two depending on your city size.
