Thank you to everyone helping..

First of all, I've only encountered problems with mods (like two or more can't work beside the others, or a missing dependency) myself, or seen others with these problems while actually loading a city, but never before loading. So, my guess would be that you have two/multiple mods installed that actually change the appearance of the region.

Second, there is this little mod from Drunkapple, inside the following link: https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=23651. I use this one (and his second version of the starry night for cities, because both are just epic!), however, there might be some others as well that do the same thing, only with another type of background. I probably don't know of any other region background modifier then the one of Drunkapple, but if there are any, it could be that you have more then one installed, causing the game to crash.

Third, there are more mods for the region, that change the appearance of the region transport legend. I know that for these kind of mods, that there really are multiple of them on the STEX, so it could be that you have more then one of these installed, causing the game to crash.

And the last, for the fact that you noted the CAM, it could be the issue, as you noted it was recently installed, but I doubt if the CAM causes crashes before loading the city, as all the CAMelots and game changes required to make the CAM functional are bound to all city tiles specificly, and nothing of the CAM works region wide.

It's either what I noted as second or third, or someone else will need to provide some more info about the CAM and possible crashes, as I have had no crashes caused by the CAM, nor the required experience or information regarding crashes caused by the CAM, or at least not enough for the region wide ones.

The problem is that I noted something strange...the first time the problem happened i tried to solve the problem re intstalling the game...It worked for a while then, while running one of my cities, the game crashed and I've never been able to see the region map again...probably the first post wasn't clear...The game works normally with all the titles and introduction video...then appears the logo with the name sim city 4 deluxe edition...then the game crashes...that's the problem!!!!! I just can't understand why........

Right, you have a problem. Basically the Region the game is trying to load is corrupt, although it only may be the one city tile that is corrupt but still. Try this. Go into My Documents/SimCity4/Regions/ Whatever your region name is. Move it out of that folder and then try to run it again, it should work. Then you can try putting that region back in but removing all the .sc4 files found in that folder and then re-introducing them everytime you run the game. That happened to the one city tile of mine that I had worked on for two years. Sadly you cannot recover the corrupt city tile.

    Hope this helps

Gugu3, your first post was clear enough, I only replied with two things you could have done that has something to do with mods inside the plugin folder. However, the post of Dannibee was something I didn't know about.

Is there any way we can beg EA for one more update to the game? It seems to me that Sim City 4 is on borrowed time here. With newer hardware, the game becomes less compatible. I would at least like to see an update containing improvements to video card support, a fixed/updated OpenGL engine (for those of us running through wine), and a couple of other various fixes that I can't name off the top of my head.

Sim city 4 doesn't even run properly anymore. I found that I can use the NAM and only the NAM. No matter what plugin I put in with it, the game will crash while loading a city. This is getting kind of stupid. I love the game, I really do; I just don't like how EA released their B638 update and pretty much abandoned the game altogether.

I've been fine with CAM and my plugins file is now up to 1.8GB! They do recommend though that after you install CAM you use it on new regions because it can cause problems with already existing regions. Have you tried playing a new region?

@ Mysteryous...I doubt EA will do anything else with SC4 now, it's too old. I wished they'd have picked up Cities XL from that French company though after they went bankrupt and developed that one further....or maybe they still can and then they can turn that into SC5!:)

My system is pretty high-end and I used to get a lot of crashes, but since I did that change to my desktop icon to force the game to just use one core, I haven't had one crash since! I can't remember where I found the info but the target in my desktop icon looks like this:

    C:\Windows\SysWOW64\cmd.exe /C START "SimCity 4 Deluxe" /high /affinity 1 "C:\Program Files (x86)\Maxis\SimCity 4 Deluxe\Apps\SimCity 4.exe" -intro:off -CustomResolution:enabled -r1920x1200x32

(Note: I can't get rid of that smiley face..it should be a ":" and an "o" after "intro"!)

Obviously you'd have to adapt it to wherever you have your game installed and whether you want the intro on and what res you play at.

Check the "Do not parse emoticons" box in the reply window, to avoid the smiley's.
