The title and summary says it all, so I will start off with what inspired me to make this thread.

One of the little things that make me smile is when I click to rate something on the Internet and my click makes the rating go up.  (I.E. the STEX or Youtube)

When I walked out of the house this morning to quiet the dogs barking, I got a wave from my next door neighbour whom I haven't seen all winter.  Things are improving with the coming of spring.  My beds are starting to have green in them.

Squirrels always seem to bring a smile to my face. They are so playful.

Oh, my poor ears...why do I subject myself to Gottfried's voice?  It should be in the Tick Me Off thread--it is so annoying...he should marry Fran Drescher and together they could move to a remote island where there is no internet or recording equipment.  3.gif  That in itself would make me smile.

Anyway, other things that make me smile:

Waking up to hear a gentle thunderstorm.

When my "grand dog" wants to touch noses.

Buying my new grand neice an extremely girly, cute 3-6 month sized outfit.

When my helpful neighbor mowed my  lawn, and at the last minute avoided the rather short new bush I planted, whew!

When my cockatiel eats spaghetti.  It could be like the bird version of Lady and the Tramp if only he had a girlfriend.

It's good to list these things now and then.  19.gif

Here are my old dogs in their new home in the United States.  They are very cozy.  I smile across the miles.

The picture has been cropped and air brushed to fix the specular highlights from the flash.  This was done with the GIMP.

You are welcome.

  • How long have you had it?
  • How quickly does it load a large program, say, SimCity 4 with lots of plug-ins.
  • Is it slowing down?
  • Is it proof against virus attacks?
  • Is there a trusted mechanism for distributing software and updates?
  • How often do you get updates?
  • Do you do any development (programming?)?
  • If you had to reload it, does the reload protect your existing user files?
  • How long does it take to do a cold start?
  • Are you using Internet Explorer, and if so, is it improved?
    • Have they abandoned using ASPX web files?

There is one negative in all the questions you ask: Virus proof. That's a no. The rest is all positive.

Well, heavenly days, they finally caught on after 30 years of trying to reinvent the wheel.  Bell Labs (UNIX) didn't have that much trouble, and its precursor (Multics) was working just fine, thank you in 1963 when I first encountered it.  From all this comes Linux, which is working just fine on my tiny machine.

Oh, and I had a smile today when my suspitions were confirmed.  I ran the system monitor, then started up a copy of Micropolis in another desktop.  The CPU went to 100% and stayed there.

I'll say the same about Windows 7 as Maestro, but with a good antivirus program, you should be safe.

My mom and dad's computer (Dell Inspiron 545 with W7) runs SC4 like a charm.
