I agree, but first we actually have to find those people and make contact, then we would be able to discuss it.

I vote for more recycling and above all more inciniratorataros.

If we became an interstellar garbage tosser, I don't think we would have to find them.  Remember the old, original version of "The Day the Earth Stood Still" with Michael Rennie as the interstellar ambassador?  That's likely what would happen.

Well, here's an old movie for you to watch in a weak moment.  It's in black and white and the plot is rather stupid, but considering the times, it exemplifies post-war America.

Is that supposed to be a legitmate excuse?  I think not.  You have the intertube at your fingers, and a brain with which to use it.  Your statement implies that since I was born in the 70s, I shouldn't be expected to know anything about a film made in the 50s.  That is simply not true, especially today.

You understood me wrong. I can intertube it, yes. But to assume I know that film is wrong. I was merely pointing out that a younger person is less likely to remember that movie.

In Brazil , water is very very cheap. Economist says have no cost, because what we pay are just the price of plumbing and wastepipe.

I'ts ironic but i wash my car with potable water. And pay approximately US$ 1.30 per gasoline liter.

( I pay US$ 1.25 for 1m3 ( one meter cubic ) of water, without the wastepipe taxes.)

Actually I saw it in a broadcast not very long ago on one of the movie channels.  You probably don't have access to this channel or did not see the show.  The recent revision and remake of the plot didn't do anything useful except add colour and a slightly more modern plot.

I suggest that things are more like the Star Trek move "First Contact" than we would like to believe.  Might bruise some egos around here on our primitive little island.  It makes sense that any interstellar culture would ignore us until we are capable of joining their club.  After all, they wouldn't want us backward bumpkins blundering around their patch without guidance.  Just watch out for those Vulcans, they are pretty austere.

Why?  We have more than you do.  Consider all the ice in the arctic.  It is all freshwater.  You just keep your rainforests running.  We need them to clean the atmosphere along with our boreal forests up here.

As for water for the U.S.A., we could always tow a few bergy bits down to them.  They could build coffer dams around them and water their coastal cities easily, at least.  If they really wanted a large supply of water, they could use that hunk of the antarctic ice pack that is floating around down there melting.  All it takes the the tugs to get it across the equator.

Come to think of it, the world has too much fresh water.  If all the ice melted, the sea levels would rise about 100 feet (30 metres).

Only if we allow it to melt into the sea.  If we do, that amount of freshwater will raise so much hell with the balance of the sea that the changes will be catastrophic.

Meanwhile, some of those thirsty cities like L.A. should be building desalination plants instead of counting on the Colorado River which is drying up.   The plants will have to be nuclear powered, eh?

I would worry too much about Gort.  Among the group of Scientists who ask questions , like,  why have we never detected other civilizations, there is a minority opinion which holds that when life reaches the level to be able to communicate, they procede to destroy themselves.  Just think of the water bottles we will leave behind.

Brazil have Aquifer Guarany, the biggest subterrain clean water source in world.

The Amazon rainforest are very important to climate. But the biggest air cleaner are the oceans.

Just curious, what the price of water in Canada?

Bottled water costs more than gasoline.  Tap water is included in your municipal taxes, generally, if you are on public system.  Some places have metered water, Toronto, for instance.  Because my area is on wells, I have to pay an extra $250 or so per annum for water testing.  The big water purification plant at Grand Bend uses water from Lake Huron.  Generally, with some precautions, the water in the upper great lakes is potable.

I don't think Gort was a very good idea.  I can't think of any reason why a civilized people would create such a deus ex machina.  I think the main point of that movie is how trigger happy the Yanks are.  Still true today considering what's going on in the world.
