brilliant!!! very interested as it happens, I think FAR & FARR are 18.4 or 71.6, but I'm not sure. It sounds like a fantastic cross section of stuff you'll be doing, I will show you my meager efforts soon. As I posted earlier I am struggling with how to go about setting everything (stage & wealth levels) What sort of a plan do we need in place so that everything works? What about the rural/urban tileset idea? As for the 10m by 6 that's the RL measurement I take it, not the SC4 version?

Yeah. Generally most of the French/German/English/Northern Italian stuff will be about the same, for the rural houses at least. About 10m by 6m, the 'front' with the door being one of the long sides. The more snow received in the area, the higher the roof, too.

Yes, I checked with the tooltips on the relevant NAM menu and the straight FAR pieces are 18.4 and 71.6. There are also transitional pieces between FAR and ortho and diagonal, including curves. I think there is scope for buildings at all sorts of angles.

excellent, that would be much appreciated. This project is still alive btw, and I've slowly been adding to my LOT & BAT collection. The main stumbling block for me was the need to learn more about some of the basic game mechanics, and also how to use PIMX properly (plus my other 6 projects;-)). But I'm getting there. I will pm you with some further info and any lotters or batters interested, please let me know.

During my time off between studying today, I made a test building that could be a blacksmith's. It isn't fully textured yet, and windows on the front of the roof aren't finished yet,  but is this roughly the style you're looking for?

personally no, it's more of a fantasy style than medieval. (The chimneys look particularly unrealistic to me)This is an example of of more the style of blacksmith I'm after (along with the tools etc):

Thanks Timmy but don't forget this was my project & idea to begin with. Secondly I didn't make those models, they are merely examples for SimCity4IE  to work from (so I would take that link off the front page).

SimCity4IE: Much better. I think your proportions could do with some tweaking (scale tool should do - to my eyes the building could be a tad wider). Also the textures, particularly the roof, still need some work. But you're now in the right neck of the woods.

I am putting together a private SM website as a development place. Anyone that is interested in contributing please PM me. (i.e lotters, batters, modders, medieval nuts)

But at this point I have no expectations; I know it's only when there is more progress to show that the volume of manpower will increase.

    Stay tuned...

cool, the roof texture looks a lot better. I'm of mixed feelings about the smoke... I'm hoping/assuming that there will be a way have a smoke animation for use in game. I think this is especially important in this era ( a lot of in game effects/animated props etc won't be usable), to add some movement & life to the scenes. I expect near every building would've had a plume of smoke emanating from within.

This market/castle looks underscaled or something. Maybe it's just the effect of the textures (which are well OVER scaled imo) Also I think you need to make some variations to your roof textures so all the buildings aren't exactly the same.

Just checking in to see how this project has been coming along. I'm glad to see people are still showing interest in it. I just came back to SC4 after about 2 months off, but I haven't forgotten about killing civic vehicles. It may take me a few weeks but I plan on re-investigating the issue soon. Any word on the possibility of switching civic vehicles with alternate models? That's definitely out of my comfort zone, but I think it's still a viable solution because I'm really not sure if it will be possible to do it through the automata exemplar.

it is possible, and has already been done - thanks to Dobs' ingenuity. Check your messages. :-)

    The cement trucks

    The mayor's limo.

The main problem with this is that they are still traveling at the speed of the network When they hit a road it's hilarious.

Also, as has been pointed out to me, the dog is too domestic fro the times.

This is very interesting! You should take a look at Anno 1404. It will offer you great new ideas for many types of buildings, especially residential ones from R$ to R$$$($$). Also many other citylike buildings like a doctor or fire department.

back from exam hell.... I am amazed, you solved the civic vehicles? Nice! Could i suggest carts with signs on the side? like a cross for an ambulance? That would solve the road problem. I might try and get to wark on retexturing the roads, as my main issue of the automata has been solved. I might pass the word round in the simmars forums, having been interested in that a bit, and i may also dig into thier DATs to see how they did it. Dont expect any work off of me for a while ( i lost 20 BATs when my PC died, i am still hoping to ressurect them.) although i may work out something usefull.

I know nothing about UI modding (other than it's tricky), but certainly there needs to be some changes made for the final product. I gather there's a limited palette? What options are there for the UI?

yet we still need more automata. Do you know how to make custom queries? I was gonna try that but got stuck. I think the maxis ones are a bit technical, and not old fashioned enough, so i was gonna...work some stuff out. Although i like what you have done, and an overall colour scheme of wood and black looks good.

Daeley has a tutorial on modding UI menus on SC4D. This is probably the most important part for your situation:

    • The query causes the game to crash to desktop, any ideas?
Just like above, in most cases I have encoutered this is caused because of an area error.
For example: the area (200,400,300,300) can not exist. If I refer to this area as (x0,y0,x1,y1),
you can see the x-coordinates are correct, as x1 > x0. However, since y0 > y1, this area can not
exist, and this will cause a game crash.
