Over Road Elevatated Rail Station Issue

Hello, right before I get to my issue, I'd like to say hi and introduce myself. I have been playing city builders since the SimCity 2000 and always loved the game. I'd have to say SimCity 4 is byfar the best out of any city builder today.  I really do love this and the mods and CC are truly great. My only problem is that I seem to accidentally add a few bad ones and end up deleting and startiing all over. For any others who have been on the Sims 3 Forum, I'm Walden95. I hope to also become an active part of this comunity as well.1.gif

Also, if anyone could direct me to the forum rules here, I would appreciate it. I can't find them here. It's a little strange considering that I run a stickied directory on the TS3 forums.30.gif

Ok to my problem. One of the most essential part to SimCity is transit. I'd really love to be able to use those over road elevated rail stations such as this (https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=17338) and this (https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=19178). I have the latest NAM installment and not many other mods or CC since I decided that the amount of bad CC in my game was making it unplayable and could not be tracked down and deleted. Well the CC that I do have is the SAM, NAM 2009, a few GRL stations, and a few on road bus and subway stations. I'm wondering if it somehow conflicts with any of these or that it's just too old and needs a new updated version. Well, more specifics include that if I place down either of the stations, nothing happens but when a station and a GRL piece or over road elevated rail is alreaty there when I go to place either station down, it crashes to desktop. 45.gif Very annoying when you like your transport networks to be as efficient and usable as possible. Any sugestions on how to fix it would be appreciated. Any other suggestions on other great transport CC if this so happens to become unsolvable would also be too. Thank you. 18.gif

Hey Walden - welcome to ST........

There is a well known issue with puzzle pieces & stations;

If you hover a puzzle piece over a station it will cause the game to CTD (crash to desktop)

Basically - lay the track first leaving gaps for the stations, then place them after into the gaps

Save often & be careful with the puzzle pieces when placing them

There is probably a lot more about this if you search the forums

I thought something like that. I saw two other posts not exactly the same but I get it. Just currious, does this involve one of the more recent updates of NAM because I remember several years back when those two stations worked. Thank you. 18.gif

I don't use those particular stations so can't help with them

The network puzzle pieces have always had this effect in NAM as far as I know - maybe you were just lucky when you used to use them.

This does apply to all puzzle pieces & stations not just GLR - some of the newer NAM puzzle pieces have been adapted to alleviate the problem.

Good luck - & maybe somebody will come along with a more technical response to this..........

I found a good number of station at this Japanese SimCity Site: http://www.bripizza.net/sc4/index.html

It's in Japanese so you have to use Google translator to translate the page. There elevated over the road stations don't cause the game to crash, same with the rail viaduct stations.

This is a bug in the game, so the NAM version has no effect.  The NAM Team did find a trick to reduce this bug with the GLR pieces, but I believe it involves transit enabling with one-way roads so that particular fix is not applicable to El Rail over Road.

Whenever you are hovering with a puzzle piece, there is a possibility of a crash if the puzzle piece preview touches another transit enabled item.  Since stations are larger, they are harder to work with than the single-tile network pieces.

The stations will work, but you have to be extremely careful when placing them.  It's best to place the station first, then build the track connections on either side.  I usually zoom in extremely close so I can be sure not to touch anything that would cause a crash.

And of course, save early and often - because you will crash no matter how careful you are.

It can be a pain, but it's the price we pay for the new networks in the NAM.

A few hints to reduce the occurrence of this type of crash: Zoom in where you want to place your puzzle piece, and then position the map so that the puzzle piece's destination is very near where the menu containing the puzzle piece will be. Also, the NAM Traffic Volume Data views or the NAM Zones view can be helpful here, as they highlight stations so that you don't accidentally drag your puzzle piece over them.

Thank you very much for all of your imput. 18.gif

I guess that I was lucky. And thank you for your tips and tricks too, I have discovered some of them before and I'm sure that some might help. However, this lot just acts differntly than other lots. I've done tests before and they show that if no other nam objects are in the city at that time, it won't crash but if they are, it's an instant crash. Oh well, I'll have to make due, it's kinda usless now since it has to be conected to a NAM over road elevated rail peice to make it funcution but I can work with GLR. It can be tricky in some spots, but I usually get it to work. Once again, thanks for all of your imput. 9.gif

Hey guys, sorry for the doubble post.

Well, I decided to look around some more for another station simular to the one I had problems with. I forund this ( ←?? and scroll down and there will be a few over road EL Stations). I also rediscoverd another station that I think that I had last time when I last had those two Chicago stations working. (it's this one https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=12345). When I go to test them in the game, they work. 9.gif I decided to go a step forward and test out the ones that crash. They decided to work too. 6.gif Finally! It's been over a year and a half since I upgraded my computor and started SC4 only to find that those objects no longer worked!

I really don't know too much about making CC for this game but it possible that files from one object can be used from files from another? Mabye I should finally get that BAT tool and start making stuff.
