The scale is correct in that it is replicated 100% to the exact building blueprints, however...the vertical scale is off in SimCity terms. I have to scale the bulding 133% vertically to match the exaggerated vertical scale of the game. I forgot to do that on that export you just saw, so the store looks too short. It will be fine in the final. Just use your imagination.

And regarding the chain link fence, I need a custom one for the garden center. The greenhouse is surrounded by a chain-link fence of custom dimensions so an existing prop wont do. Any idea how to model one, anyone?

It will have jobs in the end. About 550, CS$ jobs. That's what a supercenter peaks out at during christmas.

Yes I know it's freaking huge. The real deal is 500'x700'. Over 200,000 SQ FT. Accuracy is my top priority. I'm just anal retentive like that. You guys can keep asking for a smaller version but, my apologies, it won't be from me. Baco has already done a smaller, non-supercenter WM and I encourage you to try your hand at making your own.

You also have to consider, Wal-Mart doesn't build these stores much closer than 6 miles apart. (that's what they are in Indianapolis) Taking into account that each large city is 2.5 miles square, that's only a few Supercenters per region. That size seems appropriate.

Also, take a look at this. Here is the aerial view of the exact wal-mart I'm copying. Compare the size of the lot to the houses just south of it. If you figure each houses' lot is 1 tile wide, the Wal-Mart lot will be almost 15 tiles wide and 14 tiles deep.

Maybe I shouldn't of said anything about its size because it does look to scale with the real photo. (That's bigger than our wal-mat supercenter) The more I look at it, the better the size looks.2.gif

Please fellow simtropoleans (err...what do you call a citizen of simtropolis anyway?) you both make valid points. Just because I work there doesn't mean i agree with everything they do. Quite the contrary, I think the company has been going to hell in a handbasket ever since Mr. Sam died. But that's neither here nor there. Nor is this the place to discuss it. Lets end the dispute now before a mod locks this thread and makes me start a new one.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but please, lets share and exchange those wonderful opinions in another thread. Now, back to business.

I don't care about the size but at the same time you don't want to bog down the game. I think you should talk to the guy that made Lowes about making a chain fence.

It looks awesome. Bocco died I think his real life build project has stopped srill waiting for BestBuy.

Not to start any problems but Pekeboo stired the pot when it comes to those Big Box giants but then again Pekeboo is to young for Big Box destruction of America problem. Now the blame isn't only Walmart but also Target,Lowes,Home Depot and host of other giants. Many here are to young or just don't give a dang about small business. There was time stores were no larger than the average house and the person waiting on you was most of the time the owner. All I ask don't turn SC into one giant big box try smaller stores.Thanx[/quoteMESSAGE][/bEGINQUOTE]

If someone can get me blueprints, dimensions or some reference photos, I'll do a best buy after I finish my wally-world. I like copying real things. It helps you notice detail.

I being an American have the right to tell you to shut up. That right was given to me by the laws that govern this land, by the people who fought for those rights. It is people like you that make all of us regular American citizens look stupid to the people of the world. Please read my post again, Understand that I am not against you saying your peace, you are entitled to it. My point is you have complained long enough about it. I have read several posts by you about Wal-Mart alone. The constant complaining about this, when is it enough?
I think it can be called beating a dead horse at this point. I also think you failed to answer my other question. Do you support those other places I mentioned? If so then rethink your opinion.
ALSO Wal-Mart was founded by a good old boy. How about that.<ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/16.gif>

PLEASE DO NOT CLOSE THIS THREAD DUE TO ME YELLING AT HIM. I WILL LEAVE IT ALONE NOW!!!!!!!
THANKS AND GO BIG BOX, JOB CREATING, LOW PRICE LEADERS!!!!!!!!!!!!

The only texturing i've done is that center section where the sign is. I want to get the structure 100% so I don't have to re-do things later. The building will be a couple shades of gray when done. The roof is the only part of the building that is white. That in-and-of itself is strange, most Wal-Marts have a black or gray roof. Ours is the first one I've seen to be white.

This store just turned 1 year old this month. It is a brand new prototype for the company so there will be some differences between the model i'm doing and one you may have near you.

Sam's Club? It's a big deal! (pun intended) Like for the BB you suggested, if I can get some good reference material, I can do it. I don't have a SC near me, tho.

I don't see why a 'true blooded american' should have more right to have their voice heard than anyone else. Surely everyone should have no right to be told to shut up.

Wonderful work on that WalMart, gilpo. I like every brand name building that is made for Sim City 4, regardless of the accuracy or artistic ability, because I know that you work very hard on every one you make (I am not an artist like some of you, so I can't make such great buildings), if you work hard it looks good (WalMart looks GREAT), and we need some realism in this game. Keep up the good work! I look foreward to seeing any future creations of yours. As for the people who are not WalMart fans... I am not real crazy about WalMart either, but they are a well-known and respected company and they have their right to exist. If you don't like WalMart, keep it to yourself or write a nice book about it in your spare time. Don't ruin the fun for all the rest of us.

WalMart isn't really respected but the building looks great! In my SimNation, the WalMart doesn't destroy the economy, and everything looks realistic! Any idea when this will be released? It is coming along great!

Hi folks, if you need assistance PM me..But, chain link fences looks really bad in SC4 from 3dMax. Im still tinker with it tho- trying to think outside of the box...he he...its the line of sight differences. Still tring to find that perfect ratio angle between SC4\3ds\reality.

there are valid points from each person, but where i live (Florida Panhandle) the WalMart are ruining the economy because there are 3 supercenters within 20 minutes of my house and 7 within an hour of me. Alot of smaller businesses have had to close down and there are buildings that have already had 3-4 businesses in the 4 years that ive been here. 2 Kmarts should (hopefully) be closing their doors soon here.
Heres some other big boys within 20 minutes of my house: 2 Lowes, 2 Home Deopt (another planned), 1 Best Buy, Circuit City, Office Depot, 3 Walgreens, 4 Eckards, 8 McDonalds, 5 Burger King, 4 KFC, 3 Red Lobster, 2 Olive Garden, 6 Hardees, 8 Whataburger (YUK!), 5 Blockbuster and the list goes on and on.  Each of these are larger corporations (even if the individual store may not be big) slowly taking over our cities one at a time and the smaller business owner of say the local burger and pizza joint are becoming slim to none.
Now how this affects SimCity is that if you look ingame, look at Kenner Dinner Theatre, look at alot of the buidlings and you will see 20 of the same thing which is partially due to limited number of buildings todraw from and and partially thats what the game  thinks you need to satisfy your shoppers needs ingame.

    Oh and NO MORE ARGUING!!!

    Here's an update:
The GM Vestibule is done now. The garden center is starting to take shape. My videocard has suddenly decided it no longer wants to run simcity so all my screenshots are in GMax now. Enjoy.

And your first glimpse of the night view:

No idea on when this will be done. I only have an hour or two to work on it a day. I'm working at the real thing 12-14 hours daily <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/8.gif>.

Add more roof junk.  Its way too plain looking.  Also, they have sercurity cameras all over the place in the front by the parking lot and garden area.  Add those.

The security cameras will be added later. The rest of the roof junk (pipes, etc) will be texured in at the very end.

    Looking good so far. <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/1.gif>

    Couple of suggestions.
I know you haven't textured the roof properly yet, but I hope that when you do it isn't a solid white but instead looks dirty.
And if you can use a night light to illuminate the garden centre rather than the texture it will look much nicer.

Here is an overhead view of the WalMart in Thunder Bay.

This was taken in 1996, so the roof is probably really bad now. It is also located in an industrial district!<ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/22.gif>

I know how much you want realism but just liek your going to have to stretch the vertical your going to have to drop the white roof. Im sorry but in Simcity White and lots of it sticks out like a sore thumb. Use a greay tar. And as for the pipes you could texture them but i think it would look better to make them in 3d just use splines and extrude along paths and it would be easy. But its up to you either way you will get my download i cant wait.
