Fitchburg

by BoxCarRacer

Hey everybody!

I'm BoxCarRacer, a newish member here. I've been working on a city for a while now and thought I'd show it. Hopefully this will develop into a much larger region later, but for now, its just a few tiles. Hope you enjoy it.

Just a couple things:

-I don't use much custom content. I'm more of a mods kind of guy. I use the streetside mod, NAM, dark night mod, and thats pretty much it. I have a few growables installed but thats all right now. Maybe I'll download some more later. I just think the maxis buildings+streetside mod looks great as is, so i'm not in a big hurry to go out and replace those buildings. Granted, there is some great stuff on these exchanges.

-I don't photoshop. I know how to, I have it, but it just seems to me that photoshopping every pic would take to much time. Maybe later on i'll fool around with it a bit.

-I'm new, bear with me. I used to lurk this community so i'm familiar with a lot, but I did miss a year or so of action here and then I didn't finally register till a few weeks ago. So I don't know everything yet 3.gif

-I'm more of a "game player" than a city maker. While I like to make my city pretty, my main focus is making a functioning city. Everything you see here is done without cheats, and purely through gameplay. 99% of the city is grown, I have a few landmarks and all the rewards plopped in there though. Maybe for one update I can tell the statistics of the cities.

Update 1: Fitchburg

For the first update of Fitchburg, naturally, we will start in the city Fitchburg. I love playing this city, a lot. it has about 4-5 neighbors for industrial jobs and trash/power/water but its reached a point where its got so much money and such a large budget that it is almost completely self reliant. Its a mix of mainly commercial [mostly services] and residential. Currently at 350,000 people, although I'd like to think that if I played the game more than a few minutes every few days, it would be much more grown right now. But I'd say i've reached a point in this city where I've got all the nuances of the game [trash, water, health, education, pollution, etc.] mastered and now my city can just grow exponentially without me having to micromanage.

I'm waiting for my pictures to upload, so i'm going to rant some more. I'll take this time to let you all know that I am in the 97th percentile for brackets on ESPN right now. And I'm in line to win 200-300$ from my various pools 9.gif. My Final Four is Nova, Pitt, Kansas, and Kentucky. Who do you guys have?

Okay...pictures are up, back to that game...umm..whats it called? O right! SimCity.

These first few pictures are from the cities infancy.

Baby fitchburg is born, a whopping 9 lbs.

Aight-Mar28061268275505.png

The first medium density in the city. Poor fellow who lives in that mansion surrounded by tenements, I'd imagine he's not well liked.

Aight-Sep20091268279789.png

The rail and the first towers come to town. The Pre-NAM commute ain't looking so pretty.

Aight-Nov21131268343932.png

Southward expansion towards the new neighbors, plus a golf course for men to earn lots of money, become world famous, cheat on their swedish wives, and spiral out of control till they land in rehab.

hmmm...heard that story before...

Aight-Apr10491268436667.png

Eastern expansion begins. A new highway and a new airport send me into the red but its recovered by ravaging the jaguar speed. At this time I experimented with industry but the pollution was too bad so i weeded it out.

Fast forwad...World War I...World War II...Cold War...The Internet...9/11...Obama...Hell Freezes Over...The Cubs Win a Series...

oops, two steps too far. Rewind a bit...

Modern Day

Aight-Oct25691269098595.png

Here we are with the NAM and other mods, sittin pretty at 350,000. As you can see, i'm working on more westward expansion. About 100,000 simoleons in the vault, I like to spend down to 40,000 or so, then jaguar it back up to 100,000. If my budget collapsed though I'd be screwed.

Aight-Oct30691269098627.png

Ocassional droughts when I need a new pump are making my buildings go black. Never the less, here the Historic District. Most of this is about 66 years old, which in Sim Years is just about as old as it is in people years.

Aight-Nov7691269098669.png

After years of debate, it was decided that the "Who is the least deserving person with a university named after them" debate would never be solved with the current universities. Robert Morris was heartbroken. However, they decided the solution to the debate would be to build Frederick I Barbarossa University in Fitchburg. If your wondering who that is, he was a Holy Roman Empire King who died falling in a river. Soooo deserving.

The casino, because I love poker. Does Ceaser actually live here? Is this place pager friendly? Not gettin a sig on my beep.

and other Hangover quotes.

I love these commercial service areas with Jeronij's streetside mod. Looks great. You can see my only custom content building basically, an Ikea. Supposedly they have great french fries.

Aight-Dec9691269098822.png

My house/palace. Can't tell if the tall grey one bottom left is custom or maxis. You guys know?

Aight-Dec10691269098898.pngThe airport. It's absurd that this thing is considered an international airport. It's smaller than my paycheck.

Till next time!

Blue headlights? Is that a side effect of the darknight mod?

    Aight-Feb3701269099134.pngThe ridiculously tiny international airport.

    Aight-Feb5701269099147.png

The baseball team is terrible and nobody goes to the games, so they play during the day [conserve energy, ya know?]

    Aight-Feb6701269099172.png

The brightest building in town, the ever so unique maxis casino haha.

    Lovely lights.

Aight-Jan22701269099034.pngOn a related note the stars are in the sky again recently, where did all the smog go...

Sure, you're city may be a little too grid-based, but that didn't let your entertaining commentary get it the way.

    Nice start.
