Hi,

I'm running Windows 7 64 bit and would really like to get hardware mode in SC4 to work correctly.  Is there any possible way to get it to do so?

The problems that I have...  It's tremendously slower than software mode for scrolling around the maps it's so so jerky, however in my eyes it seems to look tremendously better than software mode so I'd really like to get it to work correctly.  The other problem that I have with it, is that every now and then huge polygon shapes will flash on the screen, and sometimes when a popup window appears (like after taking a screenshot) the whole screen just flashes really fast like a strobe light.

Anyway to get hardware mode to work properly or at least better in regards to the jerkiness, polygons and flashing?

Thanks,

So, I guess that nobody with a new computer runs the game with hardware rendering and has the game run properly? Everybody out here running in software rendering mode?

With adequate screwing around many get hardware render to work fine.. it's only a matter of your particular situation and how much you want to fool with it.. take a search of some threads.. this is discussed constantly and many threads exist.. you may find something that works for you. On the other hand, especially DX10 and later, many seem not to be able to get it to work.

Some have also downloaded earlier versions of DirectX.. Version 9.0c is probably the "standard" for now. Different versions of DX can co-exist in the same install.

in fact there is a solution that could ease the situation. Go in the graphic rules file in your program file sc4 folder an look for something like "allow hardware backcopies" and set it to false

This link might help you sort out how to make hardware rendering work.

Are you using an ATI or an Nvidia card?  I'm also using Windows 7 64 bit and I've been able to get both to work with hardware rendering.  For the ATI card I had to modify Graphics Rules.sgr and Video Cards.sgr files.  Also I needed ATI tray tools to disable anti-aliasing.  Currently I'm using an ATI Radeon HD5750 with no trouble, before I had a Geforce 9600 GT also working with hardware rendering.  Disabling anti-aliasing is an absolute must with hardware rendering or you'll get blurred/smudged textures.
