New Batting tutorials

Does anyone know of any " advanced " batting tutorials, i get the basics and i dont just wanna make boxes with windows, i've already tried simcity central's tutorial 4.gif are there anymore ?

I'm working on a brownstone similar to the one below, i have no idea how to make the little details that i circled, can
some one show me 4.gif ?

Most of those can be made with boxes and the rest can be done with a little bit of edit poly/ edit mesh work.

For example, the cornice over the door can be made form two boxes, one for the base, and one "bent" with edit poly for the top. First, make a box for the bottom, then copy it so you have another one for the top. Change the number of divisions on the new box so that there are 2 sections on the longest side (number right below the dimensions in the modifier tab). Once you have that, add an edit mesh modifier, hit the little "+" next to it, and select vertices. Highlight/select the 4 vertices in the middle of your box and use the move too to raise them up untill you have something like in your picture.

If you want the box to have the \__/ shape, simply do the same thing, only select the bottom vertices instead of the middle (I would only add the divisions when I need them, so there shouldn't be any in the middle), then (from the front viewport, or what ever view the front of the building is in) use the scale tool to move the bottom vertices closer to each other.

For some nice molding, try playing with the line tool. Make a few nice curves, then close it off so you can extrude it (I like to draw a rectangle, then use snap to make it square on the corners, with curves in between). It doesn't take much to make a nice piece of molding:

I know Jasoncw has wanted to make an "advanced" bat tutorial, but I don't know if he has gotten to it. I might go more in depth with this if you need.

How i would model the details is by exturding the profie curve (as todd said) All you have to do is make a closed shpae with one side having the cornice details and the other two being flat.

Here are some example sections that you could use.

Bascially try and trace out thoose shapes as best you can (or one of the shapes Todd showed) and then extrude it out.

I generally just draw a shape and extrude it. Hence why my BATs are so poor.

There is nothing wrong with extruding shapes 4.gif It's not how you make the shapes, its how you use them. The whole Idea is to stack the plain boring shapes so that they make something that looks like a building.

    I wouldn't worry too much about the details on the top circle in your first pic- the game looks down on the building so top of the facade will hang over and cover the details you put in below...i hope this makes sense
