I'd just like to shoot him and put him out of his misery.  The man is nothing more than an attention w**** and needs his teeth slapped out of his mouth.  That wuss will come back sometime after the Vikes/Saints game because he's afraid to play against NO after the beating he took in the NFC Championship game last year.

This time I do feel bad for the poor fellow this time. The retirement was poorly reported yesterday. There wasn't enough credible information before ESPN came out with the sirens blaring and now we have this tangled confusing mess, and It makes Farve look like he's pulling another primma-donna stunt, when in reality he has nothing to do with this mess. I think everyone in Minnesota and around the league is under the assumption that when the season starts, Brett Farve will be supplying the Minnesota with their daily quota of interceptions.

Brett Favre is long gone....we hope. He's in the Hall of Fame, and he's rich, he needs to retire...

If he retires now, he can maybe pick up golf......

But, anyway, give it a few years, and it will be our time!

@blade: They are the Northwoods League baseball team. I believe (im not a baseball fan so im not positive) that it's for soon to graduate high schoolers and college players. From what i see on the news they are decent. They play in Johannes stadium which is near East High School in the more ghetto area of Green Bay. They have been looking for a new stadium for awhile now, and from the news it appears to be between a location right on the Fox River in downtown which would give the stadium a classic feeling much like San Fran's stadium on the bay. The other location is rumored to be in the lot that the Packers own so it would be a sport district. Forgot to mention the US olympic curling team often practices in the curling arena right next to the Packers practice building. Also @blade: Another hockey rink?!? Is the Resch Center not good enough?

We had a lot of players get hurt in the game =/ John Phillips looks done for the year. Doug Free looked down right dominant during his series, meanwhile Alex Baron didn't look so great; I think he gave up a sack and got pushed around on a couple of occasions.

Philips was looking good, realy dont want to depend on Marty B

Kitna looked old out there. Baron may just need more time to know the play calling codes after he get over his sprained ankle.

Buehler was just OK, and with Matt Stover  still free i would get Stover in here asap.

Any opinions on having the umpire behind the offense?

I honestly think it is a very smart idea to move the refs behind the the offense. In recent years many teams have begun to use the umpires in their plays as picks to separate recievers from defenders on slants and crossing routes (particularly the Colts and Saints). In general having the umps in the field of play amounts to an obstacle for the players, and when they collide, it can result in injuries to the player or the ump. I read somewhere that 5 or 6 umpires suffered relatively serious injuries last year from such collisions.

Relocating the umpires to the backfield shouldn't make their jobs that much more difficult since they are only one of 7 referees in the game. They are tasked with calling holds and illegal blocks in the trenches and making sure that the qb doesn't throw the ball once past the line of scrimmage. Flipping them to the other side of the ball will be different, but it makes sense from a safety standpoint.

That is strange...I don't really see the point of that.  Maybe to allow for quicker placement of the ball in hurry-up offenses?  Well, I guess we will find out how this all works out come the regular season.

I don't think they will win it all, but they all will most likely show up after the 10th game to get credit for a season.  Darrel Revis on the other hand, I don't think will play this season unless he gets his money, which is ridiculous because he forfeited 20 million in bonuses by not reporting to the Jet's camp by August 10th.  He ticks me off with his exhorbant money demands...I understand that 1 million dollars this year is unfair to him, but his contract is backloaded and he would have recieved significant money over the final two years of his contract.  He is trying to base his contract standards on the Oakland Raiders deal with nnamdi asomugha that pays in the range of 15 million a year, but he needs to understand that Asomugha's deal is a bizzare exception (Of course Al Davis would be responsible for this) that pays far above what the next highest cb contract pays.  The Franchise tag for cornerbacks is 9.5 million; this means that the average salary of the top 5 highest paid cornerbacks in the game, including Asomugha, averages out to 9.5 million dollars.  Revis is a very good player, but the NFL is truly a team game and he is just one of 22 players on the field at any given time.  Nobody is so great that they can win a football game all by themselves, and Revis needs to remember that with his contract demands.  He should just accept the 100 million dollar contract that he was offered and get back to building his legacy as a great football player.

New England, New York Jets, Cincinnati, Baltimore, Indianapolis, San Diego, Dallas, Philadelphia, Minnesota, Green Bay, New Orleans, Arizona. Half of these teams will return to the playoffs, and half will not. You can try and predict which teams will miss out from this group, but odds are you would be wrong. For instance, the Cardinals might seem like an obvious pick to drop out of the playoffs with their roster decimated from retirement, trade, and free-agency. However, the Cardinals have by far the easiest schedule in the NFL according to the Strengh of Schedule statistic. They don't have to be nearly as good as they were last year to make the playoffs. So who makes the cut? 4.gif

Green Bay is a sure bet. They will lose an easy game early in the season to knock them down, personally I think the Packers are to over confident at the moment. Charles Woodson (aka nonselfish cornerback) is looking as hot as last year and remember the name Jermichal Finley. You will hear it a lot this year.

Finley was an absolute beast at UT a few years back. He did pretty well last year, and I wouldn't be suprised if he puts up even better stats this season, but the Packers have a lot of weapons to choose from which might limit his touches from what they could be.

It is crazy how good the TE position has gotten in the NFL compared to a decade ago; we have Antonio Gates, Jason Witten, Tony Gonzales, Kellen Winslow Jr., Vernon Davis, Dallas CLark, and plenty of others that are impact players at the position. What amazes me is that the standard of play from tight ends has elevated to a completely new level from any other point in NFL history. Jay Novacek played in the the 80s and 90s, and was voted to the pro-bowl and All-Pro team 5 years in a row from '91-95. Jermichael Finley's stats are arguably better than any one of Novacek's years as an All-Pro, and yet he wasn't even one of the top 10 most productive tight ends in the NFL last year.

Speaking of the Packers, how does Bryan Bulaga looks in camp for the Packers?

He's been looking real good in camp this summer from what I've seen.  He's going to be a beast this season.

Bulaga has been taking first team reps over Daryn Colledge the past few days. This as two motives, perhaps they really do feel that he is ready to start and is out performing Colledge OR this is to motivate Daryn because he has always played much much better with his back to the wall.

Back to Finley, he has been lining up as a third receiver in some sets which will create mismatches. Do you put a safety and a linebacker on him or two corners? Because if you put one cornerback on him A-Rod will throw a jump ball and Finley will win it ever time, prime example against the Cardinals last year. Also Finley's numbers are even more amazing considering he missed some games last year.

Looks like McNabb hasn't missed a beat.

    5/8 for 58 and a TD.

    Hi Meg !

how is McNabb being received down there?
Coming from a rival and all.
We dont hear much other NFL news here besides the Hainsworth not passing his Physical.

Well most teams no longer have straight up run it down your throat running games like the Jets, and now are running most of the time out of the spread and the shotgun, like the Patriots do. Since that kind of running game feeds off the passing game, it frees up the tight end to be more involved in the passing game. And since passing has become so huge in the last decade or so, tight ends are putting up much bigger numbers to match the bigger numbers we see from QB's.

If a team lines up in shotgun, the defense isn't going to through 8 in the box, in fact, they may only have 4 or 5 if the linebackers have to head out to cover the slot guys. So the tight end no longer is as important for blocking in the run game as he is catching in the pass game.

Packers start off games as good as the US soccer team which is horrendous. Defence got picked apart right away and still can't get a hold of the Browns. Rodgers went like 12 for 13 and a TD and Finley dominated any match up. Once the reserves got in the game become rather stagnant.

Packers are putting the hurt on Indy 31-14 early in the 3rd...

...my bad, make that 38-17...Manning was hit from behind and coughed up the football which was snatched up by Zombo and taken down to the 3-yrd line.  Flynn then passed to Kuhn who got into the endzone.9.gif

To answer a question posted a little further up this page, the Pack is definitely returning to the playoffs, though this time with the division title.

And they just scored again making it 45-24 Packers.  They are whoopin' Indy but good tonight...never thought it would be a blowout like this, but I'll take it.

Another TD from the Pack, it's now 52-24.  32 first downs as well.  This team is going to put up a lot of points this year.
