Why is that so hard to believe?  He's just whining because his over-sized got deflated in a big way by the Packers.  His over-inflated ego can't handle that.

It's already been confirmed that the game will be in Detroit at 7:20 ET Monday. And not to mention another game is scheduled at the Metrodome next Monday night. Time to get a new stadium, boys.

Ah yes. Teflon roof held up only by air pressure. Who was it that thought that was a good idea? Why couldn't they just build a normal roof? (I'm guessing cost)

Silly roof causes trouble. Not only has it deflated before, Dave Kingman hit a ball through it once. It was ruled a double.

The game had already been postponed because the Giants are stuck in Kansas City. [link]

I wonder what they are doing about tickets.   The Minnesota fans should get a refund.   They currently have tickets to an non-functional venue.

and in this weather, how many of them could make it to Detroit?    Even if they could get off work Monday and Tuesday.

We shall see how big a crowd they can drum up in Detroit.

Edit:  time lapse video of the roof collaspe  [link]

They are giving refunds to anybody with tickets, and those fans are getting first priority to tickets to the game in Detroit. The snow has moved out of Minneapolis, it is actually sunny today. Yesterday was hell, though. We've gotten 18+ inches now. They had to close the airport which is a MAJOR airline hub. The snow has moved east now, so the problem may actually be entering Detroit.

The roof hasn't collapsed since 1986, so it hasn't been a problem for 24 years. But if this doesn't scream that they need a new stadium, I'm not sure what does. But the funding is the issue.

It never was a good idea, I don't think. The roof is how it is because it was cheaper and quicker. That's about it. They probably would've changed it if they knew something like this would happen.

Well, the stadium is now a holey place, eh?  This has reminiscences of the big O in Montreal, except that roof never did work properly.  I wonder what sacred cow in the municipal budget got the funding instead of the stadium?

Actually, folks, if the stadium has enough seating they should just fix the roof (temporarily) and have a chat with the builders of some of the more successful domed stadiums about an estimate to re-roof.  I could suggest Dominion Engineering at Montreal (owned by the General Electric Company when I worked for GE in Toronto).  They built the Toronto domed stadium, and its roof works well, thank you.  It can be opened and closed in a few minutes.  Mind you, the city fathers will have to cough up the moolah somehow, but it would be cheaper than a whole new Colosseum.  Domed stadiums in inclement climates are a neat trick.

This winter is starting to remind me of the winter of 1945 when there was six feet of snow on the streets for weeks at a time.  I was quarantined at my grandmother's with chicken pox, and my mother had to visit on snow shoes.  Some childhood things do stay with you.  I was 8 at the time.

But it has happened before. The Pontiac Silver Dome roof collapsed in the 80s?. The metrodome and the cowboy practice facility are 3 i can remember eaisly. And im not sure but i think the Georgia Dome collapsed in heavy rain too.

and in the wakeof the cowboys practice facilty collapse it was learned that  the company that built it has had a few other building they built collapse in severe weather.

make you wonder whos bright idea it was to build these things in places were you get heavy snow? or even at all.

these type of roofs are pretty much a glorified tent.

It would work to re-roof, but the stadium is a dump anyway. It's bearable, but it's just old. You can tell that it's almost 30 years old. The seats are cramped. It's drafty. The sound system is a complete joke. It's somewhat of an eyesore. The concourses are a major joke. The Vikings should really take a page out of the Twins book and build a new stadium. But the location is the problem. They can't move it from downtown, as it would just devestate the area. They could build it in the same spot, but the team would need a new place in the meantime. TCF Bank Stadium (home of the MN Gophers) would work, but not on days where it is REALLY cold.

All in all, a new stadium is needed. But the funding can't be certain. They could have it be owned by the county (like the Metrodome or Target Field) but taxpayers don't want any more taxes. They wouldn't even know about the increase, though. The Vikings need to prove themselves worthy, though. The Twins got it easy because they are respected and have won. The Vikings break your heart. They aren't as respected. If they would've won the Super Bowl last year, I could almost guarantee that a new stadium would be in the works.

Well, it is too bad that the city was in the clutches of Omar the Tent Maker, but now that someone has touched the fabric during a storm can caused a leak, I suspect that Omar has already hopped on his camel and is long gone.

You say the stadium is 30 years old and has seats that fit Japanese adults?  Maybe that says something about our obese generation more than the seats.  I don't think 30 years is very old for a public stadium.  I just think we haven't taken any hints from history in how to build one.  There are lots of Greek and Roman amphitheatres around that could still be used if they were roofed over.  The seating is definitely not to everyone's taste being rock or concrete, but you can bring your own cushion.

A good example of ancient buildings is the Pantheon in Rome.  A huge area with a free-standing dome.  We even know how they did it, but nobody is building like that any more.  The building has stood for about 20 centuries and is still usable if you like to worship Jupiter and the other bunch who lived on Olympus.  It is a good example of architectural ingenuity, and we could easily close the oculus to fully close the dome.

Seat size is often dictated by the number of spectators needed to make the building viable.  If the land is limited, you are lucky they are not knife edges.  So maybe, if the Vikings stadium is moved, you'll find out if the area really will collapse.  If so, it is urban renewal time, so maybe it could be a good thing.  You know the rule is to take a problem, consider it a challenge  and turn it into an opportunity for success.

Instead of sitting in their puddle, the city fathers should get up and take action.  First step is fund raising.  That is one of the biggest challenges.  After the funds are assured, the next thing is the architectural competition.  A stadium complex should have more than one use, and if they are moving it to new land, make it big enough to support more than field sports.  It could be the core of a new suburb.

Minnesota should build a new stadium or they may find themselves without an NFL team. It's no secret that the Vikings ownership is looking for a home elsewhere unless they get a new stadium. Whether or not they deserve one remains to be seen.

Jets suspend coach who tripped player

I don't know what this guy was thinking.   Deliberately tripping an opposing player from the sidelines?   That is unacceptable from a 5 year old, much less a professional coach.

The Jets fined him $25,000 and have suspended him without pay for the rest of the season.

It remains to be seen if the league is going to do anything additional.

I know that it was rather despicable what this guy did, this guy isn't an NFL player with an all-powerful union to back him up.  $25,000 is probably a significant portion of his yearly salary and for most people that would be financially devastating to lose that chunk of change.  He should be punished, but within reason

I don't know what NFL coaches get, but if that happened in the CFL the guy would be looking hard for his next meal.
