Hey guys,

This is my first city journal in nearly 4 years, and it's nice to be back to posting again.

This city is based on the idea I have had about a deep space mining and port colony. I am still working on all the details with regards to the story line, but until then, here are a few pics on what I have so far. I am trying my best to focus on realism with the city layout and sprawl.

regiono.jpg

The Titan Region. The colony has a population of 32,000, and is built on a erosion plane between a volcanic ridge and an rocky highlands.

spaceport.jpg

This is the Planet Titan's spaceport and heavy metal mines. The mines make the colony rich and attract many prospectors and colonists trying to make a good living, in addition it provides the colony with new workers on a regular basis.

downtownk.jpg

downtown Titan.

portpr.jpg

Titan Ship Port. Receives materials for construction and from other mines located several hundred miles away.

northernsuburbs.jpg

Northern colony suburbs.

eastsuburbs.jpg Eastern colony suburbs.

Please feel free to leave any comments. I appreciate any critizism.

    Titan Transportation Map

    regionaltransportationm.jpg

Route 201 is the inner city beltway, providing rapid transportation within the colony. Route 1 Runs from the Southeast to the Northeast, and connects the colony with mines to the north and south. Titan Pointe south of the city is only accessible through the ferry system. Route 2, runs to the northeast, and connects to the northern farmland.

    Downtown Closeups

Here are some closeup areas of significant areas Titan City

    workerhousing.jpg

Temporary worker housing, provides temporary housing up to 12 months for all new arrivals to the mining complex and for colonists. Directly across the street is the central mineral processing plant, which processes all heavy metals mined.

    ceoestates.jpg

Wealthy city center, home of the mining complex's CEO's and upper management. Due to the profitability of the mines most upper management have income's of over 500k a year, and the ceo's an income of nearly 10m a year.

    baybridgecondos.jpg

Bay Bridge Condominiums, located at the intersection of Titan Blvd and Morgan Ford Blvd, provides housing of upper class residents whom are not part of the mining operation.

    titancityhall.jpg

When the population of the colony reached 10,000, a city government had to be established with jurisdiction separate from the mining corporations.

    titanuniversity.jpg

Provides an education toward mining techniques and for other fields related to the prosperity of the colony, including manufacturing, welding, and engineering.

    southeastpier.jpg

Newly constructed southeast pier. Built to accommodate the massive amounts of construction materials being shipped into the city.

    littletitan.jpg

The western city center, often also referred to as "Little Titan". Due to it's proximity to the mining complex, the area tends to attract lower income residents.

    busiestintersection.jpg

Due to the 90 mph speed limits on the highway system, most residents use the highways to get to work. This intersection just north of the Titan Seaports is the busiest.

    Outer City Update

Here are some closeups of various outer laying regions of the city.

    tellerpassage.jpg

Whilst still within Titan city limits, this small town 8.5 miles northeast of downtown is often referred to as Teller Passage, due to it being built a narrow passageway of ground. This is the last area of civilization on Route 2. If your heading north on Route 2, then there isn't any trace of civilization for nearly 90 miles unit you reach the Northern Farmlands.

    easteducationcomplex.jpg

The east suburban educational complex. Provides educational services from preschool to a two year college degree. Located 6.5 miles from downtown.

    lakeamisave.jpg

Lake Amis Avenue. The newly developed housing along the shores of Lake Amis has been attracting a lot of home buyers in recent months.

    uppergorgpointe.jpg

Connecting the main city with the extreme eastern suburbs, this region is also called Upper Gorg Pointe. Some of the highest property values of the city are here due to it's peaceful and rustic rural feel.

    lowergorgpoint.jpg

    Lower Gorg Pointe.

    fredericktheater.jpg

Due to the distance between the Titan System and Earth, new movies are a rarity in the city, and when they do arrive, they attract a huge audience. The Frederick Theatre is one of only 3 theaters in the city, that always brings new movies as quickly as possible.

Thank you for the comments, timcravey, Raysfan16, ComputerGuy890100, and Schulmanator.

    Titan Colony – The Origins

    ©2215 EMC Corporation

     miningship.jpg
    History:

The planet of Titan Prime was discovered in the year 2045, and was the 21st life supporting planet discovered at the time. While most about the planet when it was first discovered was the same as all the previous planets discovered, it was the first discovered in a binary star system. In addition, scientists predicted that it might be rich in heavy metals when the mass analysis revealed in to have a diameter the same as earth, but nearly 20% more mass.
The first human explorers visited in the planet in 2175, 10 years after the invention of the wormhole drive. The first exploration of the planet was near the planets equator. Over the course of 4 years, 16 expeditions were sent to Titan, and 12 of the expeditions were made to perform mineral analysis, and all found high concentrations and many rare earth metals, including Osmium, Iridium, Neodymium, and most notability high levels of Platinum.
Once all expeditions were completed, the Extra-solar Mining Conglomeration Corporation (EMC Corp.) sent three mining ships, a construction ship, and nearly 2,000 miners, engineers, and prospectors to the planet in 2180. The first mine which is now just west of Downtown Titan was completed in 2185 and the center of the colony was established in 2185.
Less than a year after the mine was completed, the mine was extracting and processing nearly $150,000,000 of metals a month, making it the 2nd most profitable mine outside of the Earth system. This incredible wealth of material resulted in a population boom and expansion of mines to other parts of the planet. By the year 2200, the EMC Corp, was making almost $20 Billion a year on the mines. By 2210 the wealth had attracted nearly 20,000 colonists and miners, and by the current date of 2215, that had more then doubled to 48,000 people

    Titan Beaches and Shorelines

I have been working on trying to get all of the shores to appear real rocky, and thanks to PEG's and Schorchin's rock mods, I am having some success. However, I am still trying to find a good terrain mod that will blend in with the rocks, if anyone has any suggestions on terrain and water mods that will look good with the rocks, please let me know.

Here is some pics of my work so far.

Please let me know what you think! 4.gif

Here is the latest update. I know there have been a lot of updates recently, Lot of time on my hands right now.

So far I was managed to add about 20,000 residents to the region. Titan Colony population now stands at 54,000, with nearly 35,000 in the downtown area, most of the increase has occured in 2 years.

    downtown2.jpg

Current Pic of the downtown area. With the lower seaport visible. The increase of nearly 15,000 in the central city area has created a need for new high-rise development, resulting the in Panicle Tower being built, the tallest structure in the city, almost 65 stories or 725 feet tall.

    upperseaport.jpg

Substantial mining and logging on other parts of the world have created the need for a vast shipyard network to transport all of the materials. Even with the current ship yards, future expansions are already being planned.

    logandcement.jpg

Extra-Solar Mining Conglomeration's Logging and Cement plant, located 12 miles southeast of downtown.

    gorgcrossingupdated.jpg

Thanks to all the makers of the rock mods. I have updated Gorg Pointe. After exhaustive terriaforming, and mod searching here is the final result.

    hephase1.jpg

Phase 1 of the Humming Bird Estates. Due to the rapid population explosion many residents are wanting to live away from the city in gated communities.

    hephase2.jpg

Phase 2 of Humming Bird Estates.

    hephase3.jpg

Phase 3 of Humming Bird Estates. 2 Additional possible phases are being planned.

Nice to see you back with a cj after all this time. I really like you intro, and the image with the highway over the rocks is really good. I also like the little bit of seawall in front of the hotel (?) with the rocky coastline.

    Region Pics

Here are a few updated region pics.

    Regional Transportation Map.

    regionpic0206.jpg

Updated Region pic. The residential areas are starting to sprawl out to the east and northeast, and around the spaceport.

My plans for the region are to build the center downtown area into a central commercial area similar to manhattan island and turn most of the coastline into massive port, as well as create some very sprawled out development around the mountain range to the north and the plains to the east.

    oldseaportpier.jpg

    Old West Pier.

    seaportpieraddition.jpg

Increasing ship traffic required an upgraded seaport to handle all of the incoming cargo.

Replies:  rewright - Thanks for the compliment, I am trying to incorporate a very rocky appearance for the city to give it a more natural look.

Benedict - Thanks for welcoming me back. I was gone for a while since the computer I was using for the game had it's video card fail and I had to downgrade to a lesser model to get the computer up and running, the lesser card couldn't handle s4 however. I just got a new computer so now I can play the game again on a good video system. I still have my old cities, and if I can get around to it, I am thinking about picking up where I left off on the Crystal Junction City Journal.

Underground Mine Explosion Has Titan Residents and City Engineers on Edge!

Neglect by the mining companies produced several large explosions in the Neodymium mine, resulting in the deaths of nearly 45 miners, and nearly 500 injuries. Initial reports are indicating major misreporting of safety inspections, and failure by the mining management to observe proper mining procedures. Two large explosions occurred, both of which were powerful enough to produce a magnitude 2.9 tremor felt as far away as downtown.

What is a concern to engineers is that the explosions occurred directly on an inactive fault line, and it is believed that the intensity of the blasts might have the potential to cause the fault to slip, producing a potentially devastating Earthquake that could severely damage both the mines and city infrastructure.

Investigators still do not have access to the mine due to several tunnel collapses, and it may be weeks before any kind of investigation on the tragedy can be released. Again the main concern is the potential of a major fault slip. A secondary concern is that the explosions may have also damaged the conduits connecting to the underground aquifers. Sanitation inspectors are currently testing the water to detect any damage that could result in water supply contamination. City officials are urging residents to practice earthquake drills and stock up on supplies just in the event that a quake does occur.

Updates will be posted as news becomes available.

    Mine Explosion Aftermath!

    mineexplosion.jpg
Mine Explosion was powerful enough to set off numerous above ground fires, and did signifficant damage to the nearby water tower.

    explosioneffects.jpg
Where the explosion was felt. Red circle felt as a magnitude 4, orange as magnitude 3, and yellow as magnitude 2. As you can see the explosion was powerful enough to shake buildings in the downtown area. White lines are fault lines that city engineers are worried might have been affected by the blast. Initial reports put the underground blast strength at nearly 3 kilotons.

    smallquakes2hours.jpg
Another concern of a potential major quake comes from two small Earthquakes that occurred northeast of the city approximately 6 hours after the mine explosion. The hope is that these two quakes were the release of instabilities cased by the blast, but at the same time, could indicate future quakes as the ground restablizes.

    Two Major Quakes Strike Titan!!!

At exactly 11:30 am local time, two major quakes struck the Titan Metro Area. A magnitude 8.3 Earthquake Struck 2.5 miles northeast of downtown. A second quake hit just offshore from Titan Pointe, measured at a magnitude 7.2 ten minutes later at 11:40. The first quake lasted nearly 45 seconds, and second one almost a full minute.

Initial damage reports are just now coming in. Power is already out to more then half the city, and there are reports that huge sections of Route 201 have collapsed. During the quake cameras on the new building recorded a video of the Titan Bay Bridge Collapse in seconds during the quake. A major gas explosion was reported in the Northeast suburbs.

All communications with the spaceport are down, and nearly every road out of downtown is impassable.

At this time all residents are urged to stay off the streets, and seek shelters at any emergency shelter they can find.

    epicenter.jpg

Location of the two major quakes.

    bridgesaredown.jpg

Bridges are down. The Titan Bay Bridge collapse was visible from the news building, and so was the collapse of the Route 201 Bridge.

We will keep providing updates as information becomes available. Emergency shelter locations will be broadcast in two hours, until then. Residents are urged to stay away from unstable structures of bridges.

Extensive Damage From This Yesterday's Quake!

Yesterday's two major quake have caused considerable damage to the Titan Metro areas structures, bridges, and other infrastructure. The most dramatic of this occurred when the temporary housing tower in the spaceport completely collapsed killing an estimated 750 people. In addition, the quake completely leveled city hall, the spaceport's terminal, and destroyed all bridges connecting the western metro region with the eastern, except for the rail bridge.

Numerous shelters and emergency stations have been set up across the city. Luckily downtown seemed to avoid the brunt of the damage, therefor the city's central hospital is still functioning.

Casualty estimates so far are looking very horrific. General estimates are placing the death total near 12,000. roughly a fifth of the metro area population. At this point, however that is just a rough estimate. Damage seems to be focused to the west and north of the city. Entire neighborhoods to the southwest and northwest have been leveled. Route 201 has been closed off to traffic, due to numerous overpass collapses, and buckling.

    cityhall.jpg

    The remains of city hall.

    downtownafter.jpg

Downtown and surrounding areas after the quake. The city center managed to avoid the majority of the damage. Most of the buildings were built with reinforced titanium framing and managed to survive. Damage to the port was sustained only on the eastern piers, and the main piers avoided any significant damage. Most bridges and highway overpasses collapsed because the 20% greater gravity of the planet wasn't taken into effect for earthquake retrofitting.

    spaceportgone.jpg

    Spaceport terminal was leveled.

    southsubdamage.jpg

    Entire neighborhoods have been leveled.

    seaportdamage.jpg

University was destroyed as well as the eastern piers.

    titanpointeafter.jpg

A fissure opened up cutting Titan Pointe in half.

    transportationmapdamage.jpg

The damage to Route 201 and major roads can been seen from the regional transportation Map. All routes out of the city with the exception of the ferry system have been cut.

    factoryfires.jpg

The quake set off raging fires in the cement and logging plant south of the city. Several massive explosions ripped through the facility just minutes after the quake.

The city has already sent signals out to the Terrian Outer Rim Collation for aid, however, it could be several days before any aid arrives. Until then, city officials are doing the best they can to assemble some sort of order and disaster relief to all citizens.

Very nice start! If you want this to be more of a Sci-fi CJ, you could download SimMars Beta2 or 3 (3 is coming soon.) and use everything EXPECT THE MODS! I've seen this is a couple of CJs and tested it out for myself and it works if you know how to use it properly. Additionally, you could use the extra cheats mod and plop the buildings you want to without having to wait for them to grow.
