Mod suggestions?

Hi,

Every year or so I get the urge to fire up SC4. And every year or so I start going through the mod databases here and on other sites and eventually get discouraged because there's a tremendous amount of content and it's difficult to find exactly what I'm looking for.

I've just reinstalled and installed my favorite terrains and terrain mods as well as finally DLed the entire MTP (I think. Between the dependencies and sheer number of files, I'm not sure. I haven't actually installed it yet,) but I still can't find the things that I hope exist.

So I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

Things I'm looking for:

-Some sort of agriculture mod. The default Maxis farms are pretty useless in terms of employment and income. Is there any mod that fixes this?

-Some type of airport mod. Ideally something that makes the whole air travel system a bit more realistic and flexible.

-"Must haves." Every game I play generally has some sort of "must have" mod list. I've yet to find one for SC4. Does one exist?

Any help with that? The agriculture thing has always been my big issue. I like to build little towns, but the Maxis farms are pretty much useless and always have been.

Thanks.

Well, for farms, your best bet really is too search farms on the STEX or LEX and try to find something you like. The Maxis ones aren't great, but that is a category not many people focus on, so it might be difficult.

For airports, what you are describing is hard to come by...but you can make them look more realistic. Ace_bovenopdeberg's airports lots (found here;  www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm ) can really enahnce youur airports.

Also, searching the STEX or LEX for certain airlines can really enhance your airport.

For must haves.....there really aren't any....it is just your style of gameplay or what you are feeling. Just make sure you have the June 2009 NAM; www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm. The slope mod; www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm, and hole digging lots; www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm can really come in handy.

Hope this helps; PM me if you want more!

If you're interested in creating your own airports, you can try the RMIP sets. There are 4 volumes and several "addon" items. Just search the STEX for "RMIP". You might also look into the Functional Airport set (available on the LEX) that offers different upgradeable airports.

I've checked out the recommendations. Thanks. I forgot to mention that I've also used the NAM (that's a definite must have.)

The hole digging lot is very useful. The slope mod looks neat, but apparently either the DL is broken or I'm doing something wrong because it's not showing up in game.

I've looked at the farming lots before and, honestly, have been turned off by the tremendous number of dependencies that aren't linked with the original file. Is there any sort of consolodated ag mod like the PEG MTP? It makes it much easier to deal with dependencies if everything is available under one common theme.

Thanks for the suggestions so far.

The slope mod won't show up in game. Basically it limits the gradients at which roads/rails can use going up hills. Try testing it by dragging some roads up a steep hill, it should cut into the hill.

For large cities, look for the CAM. CAM is also required for some of the better farm lots (without as many dependancies). AG lots... SimGoober has a pack. Try that on the LEX.
