Is there a mod or method to stop low density R$$$ (the mansions) from growing in my game? I have the block all maxis R$$$ but I want the medium and high density R$$$ to show up, just not the mansions.

Is there a way to do this?

You could try zoning 2 tiles deep and leaving a space between rows of it, but other than that, I have no idea.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

Not that I know of, but you can cut off water from your low density residential areas, unless you really want IHT or high wealth commercial there. Also, it's possible to be creative with the lot sizes of course.

I haven't found any solution short of taxing them to death when I zone areas I want low/medium wealth, and inching it back down when I have an area I want to be higher wealth. I find I can pretty effectively corral them into a "wealthy" area that I put in lots of parks and a private school doing this, but I'll still get them popping up randomly in other places. For that, I can only recommend historical designation of ever third house or so, because the mansions typically won't show up in spaces smaller than 3x4 or so. It's tedious and boring work, but it's worth the effort as I've found no other good solution besides taxing them completely out of the entire city.
