Engineering Sylverum: A City Journal by Element

Introduction!

Hello Simtropolis! This is my second City Journal and there's going to be a little bit of reading so you guys can fully understand my plans for Sylverum. If you don't like to read and have a short attention span, it's okay, you may skip to the pictures below. 2.gif

So, Simsbury was my experimental City Journal. It was a major success considering it only had 5 posts and more than 10, 000 views 6.gif! It also was rated the #9 top rated city journal in the City Journal section and for that I would like to thank the Simtropolis community for the support and the inspiration to create a new City Journal (with more than 5 posts I hope this time ). Check out Simsbury today!

Anyways, what happened to Simsbury and what happened to me from last april to december? Well I actually ended up losing all my Simcity 4 stuff because my computer was restored due to a virus, thats when I decided to take a break from the SimCity 4.

Well I am back, and I hope to be more active in the SimCity 4 Community! 9.gif

How will The City Journal Work?

I have already started on a small bit of the region and in the future I hope to finish it entirely! I will show a picture of the region every update so you can see the progress of Sylverum. Also, I want to make the City Journal very relaxed and add some humor into it. Imagine a city Journal that is just as boring as this text!

To prove that this will be relaxed and humorous take a look at the following examples of how my CJ will be done:

Boring: "Today I am going to update Sylverum. Yay."

Super-mega-awsome-cool:  "L0LZ GuIEZzZ I 4MmMZz GO!!NGG 7OO UPdaTeS sYLLVVerrUUMMM! JJJEAHHH!!"

I'm just kidding. 3.gif  Sylverium will be updated with proper spelling and punctuation however we might have some fun installments, so keep an eye out!

FAQ

What can I expect from Sylverum?: You will be able to watch a region fully develop through pictures and entries.
Where can I view this City Journal?: In this topic and eventually in the City Journals section of Simtropolis.
What will the frequency of updates be?: Hopefully, I will be able to update Sylverium once every two weeks since City Journaling takes paitience.
Can I participate?: Sure! Any comments or suggestions is much appreciated.
Where can I download the custom content you display in your City Journal?: Feel free to ask about anything you see to you liking and I will answer to the best of my knowledge. 1.gif

That's it for now. Next time I blabber on about this much stuff, I'll save it for a blog.

Building the region Pt. 1 (Mini Update!) - Update 2

Sylverum

Sylverum is a mountainous region with a sea coastline to the East. However, much of Sylverum is very barren with absolutely no life. Sylverum is also inspired by many rural regions in Europe and hopes to become a similar region in the near future.

1.1 - A glimpse of the future perhaps?

[watch this information section grow as the region develops!]

Building the region - Pt. 1

I thought instead of terraforming another time, I would show you guys what I have started on and how I am progressing. Since City Journaling takes paitience and effort, I will try to show you the start to finish with regular updates. Ever since I have created Simsbury, I have learned City Journaling also takes planning and I will also try to show you guys what my plans for the region are.

So lets get started! 9.gif

1.2 - Every great City Journal starts as a blank and barren region.

sylverum22.png

So I've chosen to terraform my own region after gaining experience in the past. I won't be using SC4terraformer because I find terraforming in SimCity 4 less confusing or maybe it's because I'm just not that skilled yet. 3.gif The region is 7x7 medium tiles which is a very reasonable size and still gives me a lot to work with.

1.3 - Let's start with a nice coastline on the eastern side of Sylverum.

1.4 - ...And Now we have a  finished coastline!

Now, I am finished for today, hope I can give you guys a new update very soon. Anyways, I am not perfect at terraforming, if anyone wants to give me any tips or tell me how I can make my beaches more smooth and less patchy let me know! 2.gif

Anyways, I'm off to the gym now... Cheers! 40.gif

    Hello!

Hi, Everyone! Thought I would give a mini-update to the area I'm currently working on. Next update will consist of the finished area, some planning, and replies. Hope to keep everyone intrested during the region building process. I know it's boring 3.gif but I really wanted to showcase a region from start to finish. 2.gif

Building the region - Pt. 1 (Mini Update!)

Okay, so much more of the region has been terraformed. It has taken me 2+ hours to get the area to get the exact specifications to the way I wanted it. I have also added in some mountains and a surrounding river which will run through most of the area. Finally, I added trees to the region to make sure the area does not look as bare.

2.1 - The finished terraformed area of the region looks a lot nicer now with some trees and mountains.

2.2 - A closer view of the finished area.

Okay, I am done with todays update! Thanks for the comments and replies, I will respond in the next update. 1.gif

    Cheers! 40.gif

Very nice terraforming! I see you're pretty well organized on how you want things done! Is the city going to be located to the north by the mountains or further south by the coast?
