And for that matter, how much money do I have to put in the toll booth?

How do I increase/decrease fares and tolls?

How much does it cost to ride the bus? Depends on the traffic simulator you use, but in general, a sim doesn't care about how much he pays for the bus, so no need to increase/decrease fares.

How much money do I have to put in the toll booth? Depends on the toll booth, I think the maxis one is about 20 pence. This you could perhaps changes in the reader, but it could also be a fixed amount, not sure, sorry.

Sims don't really care how much the tollbooth and/or bus cost, the compelling thing for them is how much time it takes. At least in my experience, Sims aren't concerned that they have to pay money to go through a toll, but they care more about the fact that it takes extra time to go through a toll.

If you want more ridership on the bus, you can decrease the time it takes to switch onto a bus in reader, and that will make it more attractive for sims. (I can't think of the exact thing to change off the top of my head)

If i was a transit company in simcity, for example, I'd like to know how much the fare is so i can plan out subways or buses or whatever most cost-effctively, as I am planning on doing.

Really now, I've just put in some bus stops from this set (https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=14010). 4 stops, with about 250 riders each, yet the bus system is only pulling in 2$!

Does that rider count include anyone just passing through the lot, without switching forms of transport?

In my big cities, about half of commuters use the bus. As a result, the fares make more than it costs to run the bus systems.

Here are some tips you improving bus usage:

#1: Encourage sims to ride the bus by placing stops every 6-8 tiles.

#2: Make sure that the whole city has bus stops, this encourages more sims to ride.

#3: It is often helpful to build stops before a zoned area develops.

I hope that this helps. -blakesterville.

I actually just tried some test by having one section all residential, then a street leading a loooong way east to a section of industrial. I put an HOV tile to block everything except bus and ped traffic.

One bus-stop in each section, each has around 1200 for ddaily use

How much does this add up to in $$? Only 72$$!!!

Yet with a toll booth and no transit I got over 400$! Even in real life, tolls are generally less than a one-way bus ride!

So, how do I increase transit fares and/or make it more expensive to drive a car?  What mods and custom stuff are there or how do I edit the bus stops I already have to collect more fare?

Any means of achieving higher fares/higher driving costs would be great.  Thanks for any help

    Later:

Messing around with some bus stop files in I-Live REader let's me add "Transit Switch Fare" which seems to sort of increase the cost of bus fares, although the money goes into toll revenue rather than transit fares...

I still don't quite understand the "Transit Switch Cost" and "Transit Switch Fare" of I-Live Reader

    Later Still:

Well adding in a "Transit Switch Fare" value makes the bus stops act as tollbooths, so two bus stops along the same road is like two tollbooths.  Really now, can I use I-Live Reader to mod the bus stops to make more money go into the Transit Fare revenue category?

Transit Switch Cost has to do with the Transit Simulator, and has nothing to do with money. The Switch Fares makes all Sims passing the lot (including normal cares) pay a fare, but doesn't make the lot less attractive. Also take into account that the fares for buses aren't that high in SC4, you need a lot of bus transport for some usable kind of money being made. You could always use the reader to modify the Transit Simulator you use, to alter the amount of money being made by Mass Transit Usage.

First: Do you have the NAM installed? If you do, there should be a file in the NAM folder of you plugin folder, starting with NetworkAddonMod_Traffic_Plugin, and is about 1,8 kB in size.

    - Open it in the reader.

    - In the file are several Examplars, you need the one with TGI 0x6534284A, 0xe7e2c2db, 0xc9133286

    - Alter the property called Income per Tile per Travel Type. Bus is the third number, but you alter other form of transport as well.

If you don't use the NAM: Download it now, it the most useful mod released. Without the NAM, the traffic sim is located somewhere inside of the SimCity1.dat file, and I don't advise you to alter files is that one.

Thanks for the help. I followed the steps and edited the "Income...." property, and saved over the simlutaor file, but there has been no effect on transit fares

Did anything happen on the traffic volume graph? I can't think of any other value to alter, really. Perhaps you should ask this question on SC4D, in the NAM section, where some more experienced traffic modders can be found. Also available there is a traffic simulator that increases MT usage, and thus the income generated by it.

Yes, I changed this to 0.1, then 1.  There was no change in fare collected

In fact, changing it to 0.00000 yields the same amount of revenue from fares
