SC4 almost unplayable

Hello,

I recently bought a nerw laptop (ACER AS 5739G) and just got SC4 installed, patched and plugins transferred from old PC.

However, I have ran into unexpected trouble. The game loads alright and I have no problems in region view but once entering a city, the FPS drops to below 10 whenever I move (the movement is also very jerky) the screen or place something on the city tile (the FPS is quite alright when staying still and watching the pretty emptiness).

Now I have seen and heard similar happening to other people, but they always assured me it's related to ATI cards. My card in use, however is nvidia's GeForce GT 240M (yes, with latest drivers).

I have tried looking for solution here on simtropolis and elsewhere on the net without much success, so I hope someone here could help me out. 4.gif

Other games seem to work fine even with highest settings, yet even reducing settings does not seem to help with SC4.

If there's anything else you need to know, feel free to ask.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for all the help, but I am still looking for solution.

As said, changing settings doesn't make a noticable difference.

Nothing like what I am experiencing, as explained in the original post my problem is very low FPS, this guy seemed to have high enough to play, but his screen kept 'lagging'. So not much help from there unfortunately.

nVidea cards suffer exactly the same issues as ATI (or Intel or any other manufactureer as far as that goes) SC4 doesn't precisely conform to what modern video chips expect to see from game behavior.. almost ALL of the graphics is handled by the CPU not the vid chips. This confuses things a bit. Normally your issue will be resolved by finding the proper video card drivers and setting the "video card system" (called "Catalyst" on ATI, don't know what on nVidea) and being sure that the GAME determines the video settings (on ATI this is called "set by program" or some such).. I assume nVidea has a similar setting. Also you will almost certainly find threads on the video card driver support site regarding SC4 as it is a popular game.. (or in this case it will be confused by the fact that Acer is probably the required support supplier rather than direct from nVidea)

Alright, I'll try some fiddling around with card settings and perhaps to fish an answer from nvidia/acer then. Thank you. 4.gif

I've got a GeForce card and was having problems as well, In the NVIDIA Control panel and the "Adjust Image Setting with Preview" I changed it to "Use my preference emphasising Performance", which stopped all the weird graphics and screen stuttering type problems I was having in SimCity, it doesn't seem to cause any problems when I'm playing Tropico and I'm happy with the graphics

Thank you very much, this did the trick for me!

    Now I can play again.

I must take back my words. The trick worked for me once, after that it doesn't do it anymore. So I am still stuck with the same problem. Thank you anyways, Cathy. 15.gif
