a bit out there i suppose, but does seem hard to do...just wondering if anyone can replace the texture underneath the el or monorail? i think that it looks a bit silly having just the green grass underneath, since els and monorails are found in urban centers. perhaps a concrete texture or, as in many parts of chicago, parking area under the el tracks. this has been requested before (https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=43427&forumID=41&search=1&searchstring=) but no replies :[ ok then, thanks

It may be possible. However, it would be much more complicated than simply adding a base texture to the El-rail pieces.

You would actually have to modify the 3d models used for the tracks, which means that the models would have to be exported, changed, and then re-inserted into the DAT file. Pretty involved modding there.

BTW, northsider - I started a project a long time ago to re-color and re-model the el-rail tracks so that they resemble the ones in Chicago. I got a lotta stuff to do for NDEX now, but I will try to get back to it at some point in the future.

Some recent discoveries regarding Models, wealths, textures, means that this is quite plausible. You wouldn't necessarily even need to modify the model, if you're only wanting the base (i.e. ground) to have something on it like a concrete texture.
I should point out though; because of how the networks work, most network tiles in-game make use of the exact same set of files for something. For example a straight section of elevated rail (say 10 tiles long); the same model is used for each tile. So having a distinctively different look on each of them isn't entirely practical or possible really (to some degree). anyhow

I would suggest taking a look at the following:

And this one, information regarding it is currently spread out over 3 or so pages.
(it starts about half way down the thread with a post of mine, & continues on following pages by others)

Because the discoveries are only recent, I wouldn't expect anything to happen just anytime soon yet. There's some more exploring/experimenting to do really.
