City Disappeared - Help

While exiting a city to get to a region, the game flashed and my city is now gone.  When I go to the region it shows a hole where my city used to be.

When I go to my fiies under SC4 and then Regions  I can see the file, it's still there.

I have had no problems, playing for many months.  Using Windows Vista, only mod is the NAM and SC4 Deluxe.

Its possible that your ciity or region may have corrupted.  To see if you can stilll recover the city, go to a blank city tlie in another region, and select the import city option (Arrow pointing to computer screen when you go to start that city)  It will ask you to selcet a city, pick the Fairview folder, then find the city that is missing and slect import. If that doesnt work, then your city is corrupted and you will loose it.

That is a bug that happens now and then (rarely).. I've had the game for about 6 years and I think it's happened 2x .. Noone knows what causes it, but it usually occurs just as you mention.. It may be an interaction with something in the background.. At any rate it is lost. If you have no backup, your only option is to rebuild the city.

I just lost mine too, game freezed while saving, probably due to some stupid in game traffic message popping out after I clicked save.

Now theres a big gap too, but that was my first region, poorly planned anyway

I would like to rebuild this city but there is a big whole there. How do I get the orginal land back?

OK, I figured out how to get the land back (previous post). I rebuild the land via God Mode and started to rebuild the city and it happened again! What the heck! A few notes - it is the largest plot of land in my region and while I was playing the game the avenues kept flashing when I zoomed out. The city dissappears when I try to save it. Can anyone help?

If you know the location of the city / region save file, and if you are running Microsoft Vista or later, try opening a previous version (right click > properties > previous versions).

The city is gone - for sure.  I just wan to know if I can ever rebuild that city again without it blowing up, leaving a whole and wasting all the time it took to build it up.

Nothing is ever GUARANTEED.. sheez ... Why don't you just backup?

Have you been editing the config.bmp file you may have put a color with more than 1 255 Color Components. Check your config.bmp file.

The config.bmp file controls the layout of your regions city tiles.

Now before you do that I want you to back up your entire region.

SC4Boy, you miss the point.  I lost a city and within 1 hr of rebuidling I lost it again.  Should I back-up every 20 minutes?

If everything had failed, have you tried deleting the corrupted city file in the folder and try going back to rebuild the city? It will automatically delete anything that was saved in the city tile, but it should end the glitch.

What I did after the first time is, from the regional view, at the "Start a New City" window, I selected delete city (from the little garbage can icon).  That made the entire square tile green.  I then reshaped the terrain and that's when I started the city the 2nd time.  But after that the city disappeared and did the same thing.  

Is what i did any different than if I actually delete the file from the folder?

The same thing happened to me. For the first time in 6 years of playing SC...

... So no solution to this? It was a 200k city.... took me days to create it... oh well (sigh!)
