Automatic Exit Of Game?

I've been having some trouble with my copy of SimCity 4 for a while now, I re-installed it the previous week, but have had problems before. Here's what happens:

I run my game, everythings fine. I select one of my cities and continue playing. After a while, depending on the temperature of the laptop itself, the game plays for a while, and then exits; without saving. So, if I don't save before it exits, I have to start all over. This happens randomly, today, it only let me play for 5 minutes, other times, it lets me play for an hour.

I installed some custom content, such as the NAM pack and random buildings. I know this has nothing to do with it.

My laptop now is "Un-validated". I bought it new, then it got a torjan horse virus. So I had to start over. A family friend had an extra copy of xp, which is why it's not validated. Note that since it's not validated, it won't let me do things such as sign into websites, or use Google or Ebay.

After it exits, it doesn't exit to region, it exits to my desktop. When I look in My Documents, in my SimCity folder, there is a folder called Exceptions. I noticed that my computer creates these "logs" every time the game exits.

If anyone has information or help and is willing, please do reply. I need help A.S.A.P.

Thanks,

~racer~

TECH SPECS:

Sounds like the game is driving your cpu enough that it is overheating.. other than trying to find ways to ventilate your laptop like being sure all vents have space around them. .don't know what else to do

You could try running it on battery only.

The CPU is usually throttled down when it's on battery power, so it won't likely heat up as fast or as much.

I haven't noticed it overheating, it just likes to exit a lot. And for DP, I don't know, the battery is pretty old, and doesn't last even an hour, so the computer has to be on outlet power 24/7.

Take a look at once of the .txt exception reports.  If the cause of crash is ACCESS VIOLATION you are having memory trouble.  Try setting your virtual memory space to 4096MB.

This game is a processor eater.  It will operate your CPU(s) at pan-galactic rate and if your hardware is weak, expect trouble.

I have had multiple ctds, usually when using the zoom tool... or switching from city to region... or when placing subways, water pipes, or roads.. or anything really...

    System:

P4 -D 3 Ghz Hyper threading enabled cpu

    2 GB ram

    250GB harddrive

    ATI Sapphire HD 3850 512MB GDDR3

    SB Audigy 2 ZS

Win XP SP 3 (all updates...)

    Sim City 4 Deluxe

My Virtual Memory is currently set as follows (direct from page in system properties)

    Drive C:\  selected from list

    ------------------------------

Paging file size for selected drive

    Custom size: (selected)

    Initial size (MB):   1536

    Maximum size (MB): 3072

    System managed size (not selected)

    No paging file (not selected)

    ---------------------------

Total paging file size for all drives

    Minimum allowed:  2 MB

    Recommended:      3070 MB

    Currently Allocated:  1536 MB

So.... If you have any suggestions that don't include "Buy a new computer" I would greatly appreciate the help.

    Thanks!

hey i had this problem also. Try this, after u get the game up and running, press control alt delete to goto your task manager. Find sc4 in your processes. Right click the process and goto where it says select affinity. Disable one of the cpu's and play and see if u crash again. Hyperthreading seems to be an issue with certain games. Sure its a pain in the neck to do this everytime u wanna play but i havent crashed at all since doing this. Hope it works for you too!
