Newbie question regarding suburb tutorial

Hi everyone,

New to this place, very informative, though most of it is beyond my level still.

I've had a look at this tutorial by soldyne called Making Money the Easy Way where he puts industry in a small area, and in the bigger area next to it he creates a suburban area.

I've tried doing the same, however it seems my 1x1 low residential squares don't develop. Only thing that happens is on the corners where there are 2 squares a 2x1 home pops up.

Although the tutorial states it can be played on Vanilla (I have Deluxe), I think there was a plugin that the writer has that I don't.

Here's a pic from the tutorial that reflects what I mean:

So the writer had the same problem at some point, but when I look at a picture further on in the page, it shows up like this:

Anyone who can tell me what I'm overlooking, or as I suspect, where to find the plugin to enable the 1x1 homes 2.gif

Hi, welcome to Simtropolis!

The 1x1 houses are what are called "stage 2" buildings, that is, they will only appear after a certain population has been reached. After a few dozen 2x1 houses are built, some 1x1 houses should start building. Eventually you should have enough people to demolish the 2x1 houses and rezone as 1x1.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

I cant remember where, but there is a list somewhere on the amount of sims needed to get each stage. I think it was on SC4Devotion, but I'm not completely sure. Anyone want to post a link?
