A Complex Roadway Interchange

Today i am going to try and start a small project to test some ideas on. I recently moved to North Muskegon, Michigan and there is a section of road called "the causeway" that interests me. The specific area is on the sounth end.

My plan is to start buy just getting the road layout to work. I am going to try and use mostly standard pieces if possible, but also have the NAM installed.

After I get the main road network I will add the ancillary roads and then start adding streams, and other eye-candy.

Well that looks interesting, all ground level. Well good luck.

That's quite a network they have in the area with the interchange to the east and the south too.

Maybe, as a suggestion, once you have finished making the road part, you could upload it on the STEX?

I'd love to download it.

Also, good luck, looks like it will be a great achivement too!

Good luck anyway!

Assuming that he will be making it using RHW, chances are that he can't upload it. In order for him to do that, it would have to be like a custom building or something from the LE. 4.gif

I wish you good luck in your project, and when you're done, I encourage you to share it in the Show Us Your Interchanges thread in the City Building Concepts section.

If it's all ground level then it seems simple enough. It's just an awkward kind of t interchange. What I want to know is why on Earth they built it like that. How is that even remotely efficient? If you want to go from 31 north-east bound onto 120 north-west bound then you have to take two ridiculous turns and stop at two lights that are way to close to each other. And then if you are going down 31 south-west bound you'd have to stop at two lights as well. Seems crazy to me, but hey, power to ya and thanks for giving me a new idea for an intersection. I love challenges...

It works in rural area's where they really can't justify any ramps, though it was more popular in the 80's and 90's (at least, speaking about the ones here in Aus), i don't think i've seen any built like that on our coutnry highways since then. There's one on the warrego highway (brisbane to towoomba) for the road that branches off to the dams, here's it on google maps maps.google.com.au/maps, its missing a road though, if your coming from the top left and want to go left you need to chuck a u turn further down the road,

I see. Well it does make sense in the rural areas, but that kinda limits growth. You have to really assume that your area isn't gonna grow by a whole lot. Then again, if you have a smaller population then it's okay. Eh, I'm just about super efficiency and that style is the complete opposite. And that Aus one is missing a turn. The only guess I have is that it would have been too complicated and I guess there just wasn't enough traffic to justify the cost. Plus it would have add at least another intersection.

This looks like the avenue "Y" interchange avaiable in the NAM, but if you want to build a very realistic complex interchange, you may want to read the tutorial here: www.simtropolis.com/forum/messageview.cfm.  An interchange like the one pictured is possible to build but you will need the NAM with its puzzle pieces to do it.

So far have not had much luck. I would like to address that when i first saw this with all the lights I though it would be huge delays at times. Luckily though everything is timed very well so it does work. If anyone else wants to give it a try feel free. i would like to see what may be possible.

Well if you say it works then I guess it works! The interchange I want to build is the Dallas High Five....but that one is a little too ambitious for the tools we have.

That is actually the biggest "long term goal" we have for the RHW.  We're laying the ground work now by getting the existing ERHW networks stabilized now, and once that's accomplished, the sky's the limit.

Wow, I love how that is your long term goal. I hope you guys get there. I really do. And thanks for giving me that small amount of info. It's those little bits of info that keep me hooked. Keep up the good work!
