Might need a bit more info,

Dose the game install ?

Dose the game go to the login screen?

What are you running?

Do you have the mods still installed in the game? e.g. rescores mod

try to give as much info a possible that way someone can help you better

Well i use windows xp professionals. When i insert the game, nothing-absolutely nothing- happens. It won't even appear on "my computer" folder. Same thing happens with dvds. However, my pc runs perfectly the sims 3! I have been longing for cities xl and now i am a bit diasppointed. I have no mods installed, but so has my brother, whose pc runs and can install the game!

Well, I guess there is a problem with your DVD-drive. You've mention the problem not reading any DVD, so it's not the Cities XL disc itself 2.gif

If there is no information at all in the 'my computer' maybe you should install the driver of the hardware....

Is the power correct to the drive?.

I've the thing opens and closes there is no problem with the power.

that is very odd, maybe an option:

If you have the serial, and activated the game on the official Citiesxl.com site... You can download the game from their site, it won't need any disc 2.gif

Maybe Sims 3 is not in a DVD format and CXL is, just because it says DVD on the box, it may only be stating that it can run on that type of drive as well, but I don't really know, just a guess

try finding out what brand the CD/DVD Drive is then search the net for some new drives, maybe you have installed the wrong ones, i.e. the ones for older commuter,

I did that some time ago.

Which OS do you use? XP/Vista/7?

Maybe the auto-run function is turned off, which makes it not run....

What do you mean DVD player program?

what type of program is this?, if it is just a program that rums DVD movies on your computer then you are not doings anything to fix it, Are you shore your CD drive is DVD compatible. It should say DVD on the front of the drive where you put the disc in.

I wonder it PC games that are DVD come in different zones coding like DVD movies do, if you have a older DVD player for your T.V it may not be multi zoned so it dose not run a movie from anther country, this maybe the case to PC games as well.

Did you buy the disc of the net or at the store?

Did you buy the  CD/DVD on the net from anther country

You can always download the complete game from citiesxl.com if you have a valid serial.

Create a account on the site, activate the game with your serial (do not type it on the forum!).

After you have logged in, go to support, there is a link to 'download the game'.

put the Cities XL disc in to the drive

Go to the folder "Control Panel"   in setting on the start menu

    Click on System

Go to the tab named “hardware”

    Then click on Device Manager

You should come up with a list of what on your computer, about 4 or 5 lines down there is one for your CD drive

    Mine says,  DVD/CD-ROM drives

    What dose yours say?

Click on the + button next to it

    What dose it say?

Then Right click on that and click on the properties,
(if you have 2 then do the all the steps below for both)

You have XP so you should come up with a screen like this
    43fe.jpg

Dose it have all theses option, like in the pic above?
Click on the volume then click on  “Populate”

    What information comes up

    Mine comes up with

    Disk:  CD-ROM 0
    Type: DVD
    Status : online

Under the heading “Volumes:” it should come up with:
Cites XL (D:)  and a capacity of 3443 MB

What dose yours come up with?

    Ok...

Go to my computer then insert the CD, and wait for 2 or 3 min... Do you see your disc drive change in name and/or picture?

if not, then 1 of 2 things:

you have a CD Mounting Software running in the background that is interfering with your drive, (Daemon Tools or VirtualCD)

    or

    Your Drive has given up.

    get a new one. (Drive)

if you put another disc in and it works, then you might have to either clean the laser or still get a new one.

If you put the disc in and do not hear the disc being read or the drive not spinning at all:

then the power to the drive is being limited somehow.

open your computer and push in the wires, including the ones going to the plastic connecting part or change the connector to a different one.

this might have already been said, but i wanted to expand a little.

Go to you fav torrent site (which should be google), download an online copy, install the game and use the key code from the box to register on the site.

And toss away those DVD's. They are dinosaurs and just taking up space where your books should be.

LMAO, yeah. Disks are Dinosaurs. But arent books fossils?

The torrent site is the right idea, but youd have to pay again. what? really?, yes really. Ive heard of a better way. Register your game at Citiesxl.com first, then go to support, and download the game from their site for free. since you already have your own product key which prooves you bought it that you used when registering. Downloading a copy of Cities XL from a torrent site doesnt cost anything except time. What are you talking about?

And as far as I know, citiesxl.com doesnt host a free downloadable copy of the game?
