Creating New Base Textures.

Ok, here's my problem. I am currently creating my first lot for personal use (a country/rural volunteer fire station) and made an attempt at making a new base texture for it.

I followed DarkMatter's guide ( https://www.simtropolis.com/modfiles/content.cfm?section=Tutorials&detail=136 ) on creating new base and overlay textures, but when I put the new .dat file into my plugins folder, the base texture didn't show up.

I think this is my own mistake (duh) as I wasn't to clear on the whole Importing Your Textures part. He goes on about creating your own instance #'s, but there is nowhere I can find where I can change these #'s. I did match up the .fsh files with there .fsh.tgi files. Followed the instructions further at the bottom and saved my texture to a new .dat file and put it in my plugins folder.

What am I missing?

I don't know if this is what you need, but to create .fsh.tgi files, you have to go into notepad and type in the numbers for your instance files and save it as a .fsh.tgi file
    For example
    0x7ab50e44
    0x0986135e
    0x4000A000
Type all that in notepad and save it as a .fsh.tgi file. Do this for every zoom level, changing the last number, highlighted in blue in the above, as you go.
    I hope this helps.

    Readerinsert1.jpg'

    Readerinsert2.jpg'

    Readerinsert3.jpg'

DarkMatter's instructions for using the Reader say to right click (the white area- first picture) and choose 'insert and compress'. The Reader will ask some question... say yes. Then import all five of your images this way. Next, click on the first item (picture 2) and then click on file on the line above. That will bring up (picture 3) a file info screen... choose edit. That will bring up (picture 4) the edit screen where you input your Instance numbers. (Just highlight the numbers and type over them)
These must be unique! My numbers are ba6201d(1-4)to start and I'm now up to numbers ba6210d(1-4). The probability that someone else will come with your combination is (hate statistics) very slim. I keep a notebook (3x54.gif') and record each texture I make with it's description.
Hope this helps (sorry I didn't see your message in March - on vacation)

We really need more textures!! 4.gif'

Hey Spuds...I don't seem to have mod powers in this forum, so I need you to edit your post and put a line break between each image. Your streaching the forum too wide, and this thread is very difficult to read on a small monitor.

FYI, I'm working on some VERY cool features for DatGen which will make the creation of custom base/overlay textures about as easy as import and save. 2.gif

Thanks... didn't mean for it to stretch that way and wasn't sure how to fix it.

Your new program sounds great... looking forward to seeing it. 1.gif'

I am also trying to make it, alas I cannot, does anyone have an idea as to how to get it working.
I am NOT a good with Editing Instances, or anything like that.
if there is a $%&^! program can someone please direct me to it, also to a file so that the textures that I create will not confict with others.

Or can someone make it if I send the image I want it to be

    ^^

Well, you CAN use the SC4 tool. It has a texture maker.

It requires almost no coding at all! Just a few clicks, and image editing!

Consult the proper thread for details.

SC4Tool is by far the easiest way to create base and overlay textures. It can be found in here:

Be sure to get the update files also!

The most relevant thread for support and information on SC4Tool can be found here:

When using SC4Tool, all you have to do is create a single 128x128 pixel picture for base textures, like so:
    Why003base.jpg

for overlay textures you need two 128x128 pixel pictures, the first one is the actual texture,
    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Spur102.jpg align=baseline>

and the second is the Alpha mask(must be b&w),
    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Spur102Alpha.jpg align=baseline>

SC4Tool will create the required zoom levels and merge the Alpha mask and texture pictures to create an overlay.

The most important thing to remember is that it's strongly recommended that you get a set of IID number's assigned to you so that your new textures do not conflict with any of the other ones available on the STEX.

BTW, did anyone tell the originator of this topic about the SC4Tool and IID's?

    Quite like me there.

Anyway, whom do I see to get myself some texture IID's assigned to me?
