Traffic Takes Its Toll

Nova Agram, November 16, 2009 As the city has been growing rapidly in the most recent time, a lot of important roads use to be clocked with cars especially during peak hours. Today, the mayor of the city, Mr. Villariba, presented his concept of a planned public transport system. He intends to build up to 4 tram lines that will cover the main parts of the city and that should reduce the biggest traffic problems, as Mr. Villariba pointed out.

“However, the supplier of public transport systems, MC, hasn’t even managed to deliver the busses in time that we had ordered long time ago, although we are in desperate need of an even much more potent form of public transport such as trams.”, the mayor puts the blame for a still missing public transport system on the manufacturer. “But we are prepared and have already reserved special routes for the tram tracks along our main roads.”, Mr. Villariba cheered over his planning skills.

Dedicated for tram tracks: waste of space for an unavailable system?

The mayor appealed to the manufacturer to increase their efforts to make public transport systems available as soon as possible, clearly having in mind the upcoming election and a possible renewal of his tenor. In fact, the situation on Nova Agram’s roads is getting worse every day, and anticipating the planned extension of the city in the near future, it is more than obvious that the city’s roads will soon meet their capacity. Mr. Villariba somehow surprised the press and inhabitants with his presentation about a future tram network today as he didn’t seem to care so much about it until today being occupied with numerous scandals such as the obscure purchase  of his penthouse and several villas of the upper-class that had been built in protected environment areas. It is said that the mayor received significant amount of money to allow construction in such areas.

The today’s presentation of a tram network, which realisation seems to be very unlikely due to severe manufacturer’s problems in providing such a system, seems just to be an attempt to divert public attention from Mr. Villariba’s obscure activities as the election day comes closer.

    BUSSES ARE WELCOMED

Nova Agram, November 20, 2009  In a press conference, AntonioVillariba, mayor of Nova Agram, said that he appreciated the announcement of shipment of the bus system by beginning of December. "Although the shipment is rather late, we still are happy that finally they will become available soon.", he pointed out.
However, Mr. Villariba also added that he believed that busses could only be the beginning and that he expected trams and metro as well in order to finally solve the huge traffic problems of the ever growing city. "Busses provide only limited capacity and unfortunately they conribute to air pollution. We need more capable mass transit systems, but now I am happy to hear about the confirmation of busses becoming available soon.", the mayor added.

    HIGHWAY PLANS RELEASED

Nova Agram, November 21, 2009  The City Administration for Traffic Management (CATM) released the brand new plans for a highway that is supposed to reduce traffic through Nova Agram downtown. It will connect the city to neighbour cities in the west, downtown Nova Agram with the industry zone in the north and with the Business Zone in the south on Nova Agram Island.

CATM estimates the cost at EUR 10.000.000. CATM is run by the brother of the mayor, Mr. Iulio Villariba and has just recently been subject to investigation for excessive costs related to the construction of the 3 bridges that connect Nova Agram downtown with Nova Agram Island in the south. In addition, the 3 bridges are said to be poorly planned as soon after opening they had proven to be too small in dimension to cope with the traffic. Thus, according to the opposition, the city administration has to resort to a very expensive highway now in order to offer enough capacity to deal with the traffic between the mainland and the island.

The planning of roads and new city quarters, like the one on Nova Agram Island, have become one of the main weapons for the opposition's ambition to win the election in two weeks.

There will be more of the story, I have been very busy lately with moving the industrial zone and errecting a new quarter for living and offices in the old industrial zone. A huge undertaking, but it paid off. I am sure the Nova Agram Express will send a reporter soon and will cover the development.....

FIRST TWO HIGHWAYS FOR NOVA AGRAM

Nova Agram, November 26, 2009  With a big celebration, the first phase of highway construction was completed yesterday, delivering Highway 1 and Highway 2 to the public of Nova Agram. Along with the construction of these two blood vessels of Nova Agram's car traffic within the city boundaries, the city ran a massive program to move the industry to a new location in the north east of the city and dedicate the former industrial area to a complete new residential area.

The mayor, Mr. Villariba, announced during the opening ceremonies that the city was currently completing the planning of the new bus lines and added that the plans would be revealed soon.
Some critics were raising the issue that the former industrial zone was not cleaned up completely of industrial waste before the city authorities started to errect the residential buildings in that area which would lead to serious health problems. The opposition called it "the big unease" and a typical pattern of behaviour that proves the carelessness of the planless mayor.
