I get the feeling while reading mid-90s X-Men that the books were largely long-term vision-free.  For example, they had a story line in which Psylocke shows up in her original British body and challenges Psylocke in her Japanese body as the real Psylocke.  They meander through 3 issues where they promise big revelations only to end with more questions to be answered before wrapping it up a year later with a giant about-face.  Gambit went through similar trials, with him being the focus of several issues due to the secrets hiding in his skull.  They came up on issue 45 with the promise to reveal a big secret and gave us less than nothing, with Rogue leaving the team.  Highly frustrating after reading 17 years' worth of Chris Claremont books.

ANYWAYS, speaking of Gambit, let's honor his Cajun background and indulge in some of the home-made jambalaya my wife cooked up tonight.  It's a little on the spicy side, but boy is it good.

It hit 75F again today, but tomorrow it's looking like a cool down with rain on the way.  Such is spring in the Midwest.  Who wants hot dogs?  I'm charbroiling mine and putting some chili on them.

My wife has been making pierogis recently, filling them with mashed potatoes or seasoned meat of some sort.  They are delicious either way, and we have some marinara sauce to enjoy them with.  Dig in!

The summer sumo tournament is in full swing, with Georgian rikishi Tochinoshin tearing it up.  Let's enjoy any of a wide variety of chankonabe, the stew/soup concoctions the wrestlers eat to fuel their powerful bodies.  Some of it is very good, like the garlic pork version I'll be having.

Huh.  I thought I had updated earlier this week.  What happened to my post??

Well, here we are on the eve of a new weekend.  I will be attending my first writers' conference tomorrow, something I've been looking forward to for a couple of years now.  I need to be more disciplined and keep to my writing schedule and get more work finished!

Anyways, potatoes are delicious.  Let's have some, curry with potatoes, quiche with potatoes, tonjiru with potatoes, french fries (thin and thick!), tater tots, and chili casserole topped with tater tots, my new favorite comfort food.  POTATO.

It was only 45F yesterday, so that chili casserole topped with tater tots really hit the spot.  It's a bit less chilly today, but that suits me just fine.

Today I attended my first authors' conference.  After the first presenter I felt like I would never be published (he was very impressive), but I talked with the second presenter as she set up and she made me feel like I legitimately belonged there.  It was a very interesting day and I'm glad I'm a member of this community.

Summer vacation begins for our kids tomorrow afternoon, so let's celebrate it by busting out the ice cream bar!  I'm having chocolate ice cream with cookie dough and peanut butter, boy that sounds good...

Vanilla bean ice cream root beer float.  Spumoni sounds good too, but it is hard to find spumoni in south Texas.  It was 99°F here today, which is actually a cool down from the 100+°F highs we've been having this past week.

I admit I miss Farrell's Ice Cream Parlour and their Fudgana banana splits.  I also miss Haagen-Dazs's Sweet Chai Latte ice cream, which was a limited edition they don't seem to bring back.  Like the Baron Harkonnen, I'm a glutton for spice ice cream:  "Give Me Spice!"

It was a lovely day in Upper Michigan, so we took in a lighthouse and had a picnic on the stony shore.  The flying bugs were only moderately bad, and didn't seem too interested in the peanut butter and honey sandwiches we were eating.  Why not join us on the patio overlooking the lake for an encore of our picnic lunch?  Fresh cut fruit, Chex Mix, and plenty of other snacks and sandwiches and even some Greek salad are spread out on the picnic blanket, so join us!

It was gray and cloudy up here, we only hit 50F and chili was the dinner of the day.  Let's lay some out here so everyone can try a variety of styles: Texas style, Boston style, chicken chili, vegetable chili, slow cooker chili, chili for hot dogs.  All kinds.

I guess I too shouldn't stare, for I'm eating shoyu stir-fried hot dogs and green beans over white rice with a glass of milk.  At least there are no wiggling purple tentacles.

So, after the Rokeg blood pie, who's up for pain sticks?!

Man, this is a hot, miserable weekend.  Still went to the beach and had fun, though.  What's good on a beach?  Bottles of ice cold Oberon and Corona.  Watermelon.  Ice cream.  Barbecued hot dogs and hamburgers.  Kebobs.  Come on over and join us!

Coincidentally, I just had kebabs last night, along with huli huli chicken.  I'll get another batch marinating in the extra huli huli sauce and we can add them to the barbecue grill along with some pineapple rings.

I don't really drink too much, so I'll have a non-alcoholic strawberry passion fruit limonata.  I got one of these at Olive Garden of all places, and I've been dreaming of it since and rounding up mixers to properly make my own.

Being a glutton, strawberries, guava, and vanilla ice cream make for a yummy dessert smoothie on a hot weekend.  We'll, you have to strain out the seeds from the pureed guava beforehand, so it is not quite easy beach fixings, but that's what the cabana is for.  Guava is a popular flavor of Mexican ice cream here, but watch out of the seeds!

Happy America's Birthday to you as well.  I'd have replied sooner but we were camping and I blissfully had no electronics on me to monitor.  I'm keeping the campfire going, though, so bring your sticks and let's roast some marshmallows while we're drinking our sweet teas.

Oh my, it's been 9 days since I last posted??  That must be rectified.

I feel like kebabs tonight.  Kefta, veggie chunks on a stick, seasoned chicken, yum, it all sounds good.  I believe I'll wash it down with a Corona now that the sun's come out and the sunset is set to be beautiful.

It's quite warm today and now it's very comfortable (for being warm, at least), so let's fire up the grill and barbecue some chicken.  I think we'll serve them up as you like them, with a fine variety of barbecue sauces available.  I'm going with the hickory flavor.

This weather suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucks.  I am highly uncomfortable in warm, humid weather, which is why I moved to a place with short, cool summers.  This summer, however, has been warm and humid far more often than it should.  So I'm going to prepare some Japanese summer fare for dinner.  Cold soba noodles with mentsuyu for flavor.  There's some chopped green onions and crushed ginger to add to the sauce as you like for flavor (I usually just do the green onion).  Mmm.  Hits the spot!
