What's with High Tech?!!

Okay, I've been playing a Region that I've been working on for the past few days, and I seem to have hit a Slump. You see, there are roughly 200,000 Sims, and about 80,000 Jobs. So you figure, Sims would be jumping at any job them get. Industry accounts for about 35,000 of the Jobs. The Demand for Commercial is pretty low, in fact it's really low. The only one that it high is Industry. So, seeing all these houses with the, "No Job" sign above them, a normal Player would build someplace for Jobs, so I zone some for Industry, and the only one that will pop up is High Tech, which some might say, "That's good!" but in my case, it's bad because nobody will take them. Instead they decide to be lazy and not take the Jobs. Which leads to rotting High Tech buildings, and Abandoned houses.

Does anyone know the problem with this? Please help! Thanks in advance! 4.gif

For best results with these ($$$) high tech industries, they need to be matched with $$$ residents. I'm going to guess that most of your residential $ or $$, as it normally is. If you want to fix a problem where this is the case, fiddle with taxes until Manufacturing or Dirty demand is where you want it.

So, you've well elaborated on the employment end, what are the workers like? $? $$?

    That's the weird part: I have lot's of $$$/High Wealth Residents. It's probably about a 60k $, 70k $$, and 70k $$$.

Alright, how's your road network? Is it green? And do you have mass transit to help conditions? If commute times are too long, Sims will look for work closer to home, which is nonexistent, so they won't get jobs.

Another problem could be that you bunch industry on one side of the map and residential on the other, creating not only a long commute, but too much traffic in between the two. I try to set up my cities in rows of three, alternating employment and residential. This way Sims never have to travel more than 1.5 blocks to a job.

But for now, just elaborate on your traffic.

There is a known bug which causes High-Tech Industry to not produce High Wealth jobs.  You can download a mod to fix it here from the STEx.

No matter where you go, there you are!

The Road is almost always Green, I try to keep things pretty well oiled. However, my Transit isn't the Greatest. I used to use it all the time, as I have the Bus/Subway things on the Road, which makes things to easy, however while going through my Plugins folder, I accedently deleted some props. 26.gif I've been too lazy to look them back up, so I can use them again. 3.gif Anyways, back on subject, the Commute is actually pretty Short. I do the same thing kinda, I just find random blocks, and zone them Industry. So them getting to the jobs, shouldn't be a problem. Dx

Also, Vigilante, I tried clicking the link you sent, but it just linked me to the Porkissomo Seasonal Street Props. I wouldn't think it contained a Mod in it, would it?

WOW! If the OP doesn't appreciate this, I sure do 9.gif

I downloaded and installed this a little while ago and then ran my game. I noticed a difference immediately. This is terrific! I would get those no work zots and wonder why since I had the same amount of $$$ resident to accomodate my HT industrial.

    Thanks again

The other thing to keep in mind is that you can't have more than about 20% R$$$, since even the best jobs don't hire more than 15% R$$$. It's just hard to keep a large portion of the residence as R$$$.

You could conceivably have well over 20% R$$$ in a city - if you had not very much residential zoning and a lot of commercial/IHT jobs - and lots of R$ and R$$ in a neighboring city to take the other jobs. There are also a few civic lots that offer a lot of R$$$ jobs - the stock market for one.
