Search function problems

Hello all.

I'm hardly a ***** to forums, and I know how to use a search function, however, I am desperately trying to use the search on this forum.

My problem is thus: I give in my search keyword(s) and hit 'Search!'. What I get back is:

Your search contained ignored words, ignored words are words like a,and,to,between.Please re-construct your search without these ignored words.

Which is fine if I had been using those types of words, but I'm not, I'm using 'brown box' or 'brown package' or 'packaging' or 'newcomer' or 'new member'.... I think you get my drift. No matter what I type, I get the same result.

What I am looking for is help about these brown boxes that appear instead of buildings when an add-on is used and a dependency is missing. I can't work out what building is causing it, because the box covers the whole lot. 

Any help - apart from 'delete all your add-ons and start again' - would be appreciated.

I can live with the boxes - just - because it reminds me of the time christi or christo or whatever his name was, wrapped the German Reichstag in Berlin in some silverish material a few (lot) of years ago.

And I apologise for a whine thread as a first thread on the board.

That way you know which download is missing some dependaencies. YOu then just have to find the readme for that download and check the dependencies.

If it was that easy, I wouldn't be asking here. That was the first thing I did, however, when it covers a whole lot it's hard to tell where I'm supposed to be pointing. It even covers roads.

I have spent most of today trying to find out what things are, then finding out what dependencies are missing, then trying to run the dependencies down. I think I'll just bin the whole idea of add-ons if I spend more time trying to get things to run/look/act right than I do enjoying the game.

FWIW, I have learnt at least something today - the internet slang for a forum newcomer is a swear word. Why else would it be starred out of my post.

for what its worth, im having the exact same problem with the search function.

i thought maybe it doesnt like words under 3 letters in length, so i rephrased the search.  same thing, everytime.

so i think the search function is fubar'd

as for your in game problem, i ran into that a while back and basically the only fix i ever found was to read the support notes for each plugin i had downloaded and made doubly sure that i had snagged any and all listed dependencies.

it took forever and involved a lot of back and forth between here and sc4devotion, but eventually the boxes went away.

If you're interested in changing the brown box, you can try this from Pegasus. It will replace the box with a small colored flag to give you a better view of the lot. It still indicates that the lots model (from a dependency) is missing, but lets you see the rest.

That particular word has sometimes been used in very negative fashion in the past, which is why it is edited out.

And one more thing...

At times the search function may be inoperable for a bit because of a 'glitch' or some fine-tuning being done. It usually doesn't last too long.

Exactly what I'm doing, although I did try to track all the dependencies down during the download phase. I think what may be causing problems is the locking and merging of prop packs. I have found loads locked and although I have the Mega version, I still have problems with things. The answer? Delete the add-on. Oh well, they are after all 'only' add-ons, the game won't suffer without them.

I mean no disrespect to everyone that spents hours sweating over a hot PC modeling these add-ons - something I wouldn't even know where to start, and I thank them for the effort  - but if it don't work, then no matter how pretty it looks, and maybe even make game-play better, I can't be doing with it.

And to make matters worse, it probably isn't their fault. After all, the dependency was available when they built the thing, some of these add-ons have been around for years, although I've only just found my way to this game - which isn't a game at all. It's a life-filling hobby for most of the people here I think .

i suspect youre right as to why this happens and the more time that passes, the worse its likely to become. sorry i couldnt provide a quick fix =P

updated on the search function problem -- the google custom search works; the search at the front of the forums still does not. thats really weird.

If there are certain downloads and/or dependencies you are trying to find, you might post them here. Others (and possibly the creator) may be familiar with them and be able to guide you to the specific files. Just a thought...
