Commute Time

I was playing my new city, and I zoned it all down w/ all of the amenities, ready for it to popularte. It did. After a year, I checked my graphs. My commute time graph had a spike, and the y values were 10000-70000. Why did this happen?

I don't know how common it is, but I have seen the same thing in some of my cities, usually after making major alterations to my transportation networks or changing traffic controllers. I believe I remember seeing it mentioned in a discussion about traffic controllers on another thread somewhere (it's been a while). If I remember correctly, the rational was that the game needed a bit of time to stablize after the initial "shock". I myself have not seen it happen while playing the game normally. Just a thought...
