No but WoW launched with sufficient content to justify the monthly fee until the following content patches. Currently Planet Offer has exactly two things that the single player game doesn't: resource trading and a chat box. Excuse me for having standards but I expected more for the $40 I laid out for the base game.

If MC gets their act together and adds a ton of amazing content in the future then go ahead and pay for it but for right now there is no reason other than wishful thinking to pay them a monthly fee.

Resource trading is the backbone of the game, and single player is really annoying without being able to trade with real people.  I'm gladly paying $5 a month for that, but I expect that in the future there will be content updates.

Which was exactly the point I made in my earlier post. You're paying now hoping the game gets better instead of paying for a decent product in the first place.

Let me ask you something...why do you think single-player trading is so annoying? You don't suppose it was made that way on purpose to annoy people into paying for the PO? If you play through the single-player tutorials they admit that's exactly what they did.

Okay way to make stuff up abotu what I said...

I've clearly said I am content with the product I have, but would not be content with it for the next 2-3 months considering that I am paying a monthly fee for the game to improve.  I am expecting the game to improve for the entire duration of me paying the monthly fee.  It never means that I am discontent with the current state of the game, it means that I want improvement.  Every game can improve, are you going to deny that?

I signed up for the 3 month sub.

I've found the details on what you get for single player or Planet Offer to be vague & confusing, so I actually thought the PO would mean I could use mass transit sometime soon.

Loving the game in general, (not perfect but has some good things about it & potential to get better) not loving the whole 'no blueprints today', no mass transit etc.. or the fact that even though I've paid already, the site always logs into an advert screen for PO.

However, if I don't get some of that fabled extra content soon I probably won't renew in January.

I know it's a new game, but so far I'm still waiting to see most of the reasons I signed up & paid my subscription to get.

I think the GEMS might be the deciding factor for me. Depending on how often they are released, how much they cost & their availability to Steam users, the 35% discount could be the thing that keeps me subscribing.

Would also like a way to hide the chat box which is intrusive, often full of nonsense & of no interest to me.

If you're worried about getting your money worth for PO you can wait a few months before subscribing and then play the improved version of the game without 'wasting' money on the 'development' period.

Currently, there are some bugs and general game play issues, but I've never played an MMO that was perfect right off the bat - that's why there are monthly fees and updates.

Those that complain about the lack of forums should login to the game.  I've only played CXL online a few times, but I've already seen Phillipe in chat twice.  In other MMOs I basically never saw developers in game - especially not those that had been active in game development threads as Phillipe was/has been.

Land availability and your desires may change.  You can play any map to get better at building cities and along the way you might discover that the map you thought you wanted doesn't look so good.

CXL IS A MMO - don't forget that.  CXL is unique among MMOS because it's very well poised to improve.  A lot off MMOS make subtle changes that 'balance' the game and occasionally add new content.  This game can steadily inject new fixes/improvements as soon as they get them working without worrying about PvP 'balance' and those sort of issues that force RPGs to hold fixes until they're 'balanced'.  As far as releasing an unfinished product we can only compare it to other MMOs that seem fairly equivalent IMO, except that this is a one of a kind city builder MMO.

Regarding WoW: they do add pretty significant content a few times a year (you have to be at max level to enjoy new content).  They also release expansion packs ($50 )almost yearly - to enjoy the content you have to get the xpac.  They make additional regular 'improvements' to the game, but since it is a cooperative and PvP game the improvements almost always benefit some players and hurt others.  They can't easily make sweeping changes without some players getting really upset.  The improvements in this game should be pretty much universally benefitial and enjoyed by all.  WoW mostly just changes over time, but CXL should universally improve over time.

Its still version 1.0 and anyone who knows anything about software development knows that the only direction to go from here, is up.

Just like the other guy above said - if my $6 a month will help them make this game awesome, then I'm in.

I don't know about you, but I like the games I buy to work when I first purchase them.

It'd be like buying a car and saying, "Well, I just bought this new  car for $16,000 and it runs like junk and breaks down, but I'm going to keep paying these repair bills so they can fix it!"

You should not have to pay charity so they can fix the game.  You should be paying for a working game.

I share the opinions of a lot of people here, there's just no way I can put money into the PO right now.

My 7 day PO expired a few days ago and I wont be renewing it - EVER. I am a solo only player and never had any intention of playing online. I like the game hugely, for what it is, but feel that MC has been very rude and uncaring towards CUSTOMERS like me who only want to play by themselves on their own PCs.

I see no value in paying to play a game that I paid $69AUD for only to find that it is a "knobbled" version if you play solo. MC has a hide to release a game and then get you you pay a monthly ransom, or you will get nothing else from them, even EA wasnt that greedy with SC4 (SIMS3 is another matter tho.........). I also dont see why I should be forced to play a game I purchased on, a laggy server instead of on my own, very fast PC, without the distraction of the continuous, mindless babble in the chat window.

Very disappointed in Cities XL, Monte Cristo, I will be thinking twice before I purchase any more titles from your company again.

Well Planet Offer allows you to do one more major thing: visit the cities of other players.

I am happy to pay £4 a month to play online as it makes city building more interesting because of the player to player interaction, dynamic trade and the chat. So, yes, I will continue to play the planet offer even if no further content is released.

Mass transit isn't a GEM.  GEMs are basically mini-games inside of your city.  For example the ski resort gem lets you build and manage a ski resort.  A mass transit GEM would be like a railroad sim game, which is definitely not what you're looking for.  Mass transit is content and not a GEM.

The free weekend which started on Halloween has shown me that the trade is still beyond laggy and bugged even after all the so called fixes. I WILL NOT subscribe until trade is working! It's the only MMO feature of this game. I really want to love this game, but it's beyond broken at the moment. So as it stands now, NO, I will not be subscribing at this time.

I can't understand why the trading system is so difficult, I think MC needs to go back to basics on that..

People, including me, aren't paying for the PO because of the irritating trading system..

The announced content pack got me a little more interesting in the PO..

The trading system is beyond broken? Well the 150+ contracts that I have up and running seem to suggest that it works just fine. There are issues, eg people can place contracts despite not having sufficient freight to honour them, so the system wont let you 'buy' them, yet they still list. Updates are a little slow.

Yep, its bugged, no theres no excuse for MC to have launched a game in this condition. Does that make it unplayable? Far from it. I have found enough depth and complexity in the game to make almost any city builder fan blush with pleasure. Should you buy the PO?  Depends on your level of patience, and your ability to work around issues. Why should I have to? You shouldn't, but theres a great game there for anyone with the mindset to get into it now. But you do have to be inclined to work around issues. Once MC pull there heads out of their backsides, you'll have a proper challenge.

The player chat on its own has paid dividends, as the problem solving interaction between like minded people is, to me, a large part of the entertainment value. There are some very clever people playing this game (myself excluded).

Bugs are just natural disasters, like storms, earthquakes, airplane crashes and Paris Hilton.

CXL is worth every euro. Game is enjoyable as it is.

That's not true.  This bug issue has recently evolved.  Why?  The Internet.  I don't want to show my years here, but there used to be a time when your software shipped and couldn't be updated, because there was no practical way to do it.

So what did they do back in the day?  They published software that worked, was complete, and didn't have bugs.

Now that broadband connections are so common companies like Monte Cristo are actually going as far to publish games that are buggy as well as utterly incomplete.

Game not complete at the time you wanted to launch?  No problem!  We'll just launch anyway and use the paying customers as beta testers!  Heck, we'll even charge them a monthly fee to have the honor of being beta testers!

All excellent points.

The current feedback mechanism can be more SPECIFIC and STATISTICAL. If they are deliberately playing coy, it is not cute.

Busy mayors need direct, statistical feedback from the ground. What are the ministers and public servants for otherwise?

1 - Fix the trade in solo mode - if solo mode is fixed more than likely people will then subscribe!

2 - Fix pollution - I understand it was designed this way, however it is annoying - implement parks or something that can fight it!

3 - Fix the numbers - Tell us exactly how much electricity we need etc. - not that we need some!

4 - Implement mass transit sooner rather than laterquote>

As to the topic: I am holding back my involvement with this game until the game makers LISTEN TO WHAT CASUAL GAMERS WANT. Simply because at the rate they are witholding basic essentials, and pushing their passive aggressive business model, and thus pissing off a lot of people, I am not too optimisitic about the future of this MMO.

It does seem like both the game itself and its designer have FEEDBACK RESPONSIVENESS ISSUE.

PR, or good form, doesn't seem to be their forte. This kind of attitude might work for testosterone type MMO crowd, but hello, this is much more civilised, artistic, creative gods sort of crowd.

Adapt or perish.

MMO needs large headcount to make it work. Right now they only manage to appeal to the Darwinian sort who build large cities simply because they were there first. This kind of incumbent-biased system make it unattractive for newcomers. I speak as a betatester of Simsonline.

If I wanted to become a fulltime MMO worldbuilder I would've joined SecondLife long ago. I have no issue with paying for value. But my time is precious.

I also prefer my cities being mine to OWN, inside my computer. If I cannot take a PO city OFFLINE so that I can play it if and when I want to with all the functionalities intact, PO is meaningless to me.
