"Insert Disk" Error

Hi,

A few weeks ago, my computer was completely redone and reformatted, etc., so I lost everything. I used to have Windows XP Home, but now I have Windows XP Pro.

I just got around to installing Simcity 4 Deluxe again. It installed fine, but it won't open.

Whenever I try to play the game, I get this error:

"Please insert the SimCity 4 Deluxe play disk, select OK and restart the game"

(And yes, I was using disk 2 to try to play the game.)

I don't get why this is happening. It worked on the computer before.

The one time it did open after installation. Then I updated the game with patch 1 and it didn't work anymore after that.

I have tried all of these methods:

- cleaning the disks

- deleting my temp files

- doing a slow installation

- uninstalling and reinstalling multiple times

I really don't know what is wrong.

ANY help is appreciated!

Thank you,

Mike

Do you have another dvd/cd drive to try it in?

The only reasons this would occur is If it's not an original disc

or there is a problem with your drive-if the disc is not scratched

or dirty.

Could even be the drive letter changed on the drive you installed the game

from.-I doubt this happened but i figured i would add it anyway as sometimes

this effects that, usually the game checks all cd/dvd drives so it would not matter.

It is the original disk, that is what I don't get. It is a newer version because I just bought it a little over a year ago.

My DVD drive is a bit weird. Should I try it in the DVD drive anyways?

I just installed the game in the DVD drive and it still didn't work.

    What else can I do?

Does this mean I have to buy a whole new game?

If the game installs i wouldn't think you would need to replace the game.

Have you tried using disc 1 ?

Is there 3 or 2 discs in the deluxe version?

There are 2 disks for Deluxe and you have to use both of them for installation.

I got mine before deluxe so i didn't know how many they added to

it as i got 3 discs.

Anyway if you also tried disc 1,You might want to buy a dvd/cd drive.

I don't think there very expensive unless your buying a recorder.

Something could have went wrong with your operating system reinstall

aswell you could try doing all that again but that's a real pain to do.

If all above don't work then maybe buy another copy of the game.I would

say contact EA tech support but they most likley won't be able to help,& since

    it's out of warranty(after a year) you won't get a replacement.

Did you update the game with the correct patch (SKU version)? Remember that there are different SKUs for different versions of the game (American, European, Asian etc.).

Refer to the official site for an overview of the SKU versions, and use the one that corresponds with your version of the game. Also, you might want to do a manual install of the update (link on official site). I don't trust the automatic updater.. The last time it checked for me, it wanted me to "downgrade"..

Strange. Very strange. I run SC4 Deluxe on XP Pro myself, and I've never encountered such problems. At least I doubt there is anything wrong with the CDs themselves, as you got it installed and was able to play until you reformatted your computer.

That's why I wondered if it had something to do with the patch you installed. I don't want to nag you, but are you absolutely sure that you downloaded

    1. the patch for SC4 Deluxe (not Vanilla)

    2. the right SKU?

The wrong patch and/or the wrong SKU could prevent you from opening the game after installation.

It's probably your hardware. Some dust must have gone into it or something. Try getting it checked. If all else fails, I suggest returning SC4 to where you bought it. (given that it's still covered by the warranty) Other than that, I'd really suggest throwing your PC out the window of a 30 storey building. Or at least buying a new one.

Oh. PS, Tyr the DVD in a different computer just to see what the problem is (hardware,CD)
