Warning brasilians!

Ijust wanted to take the time and warn everybody that plans on ordering Cities XL through their official site, or (for that matter) ANY site based OUTSIDE Brasil.

I know that many of us living in Brasil experience outwright rage when it comes to prices of games sold here (they're usually like 30% more expensive), but there's a reason for that: Brasilian import policies.

What will happen (and what happened to me personally) if you order the game from outside is that on receiving it, you'll get charged taxes that go over 100% the inicial price! To put it in numbers, if you bought the game for $40, you'll have to pay almost R$100 (more than $50) of taxes additionally!

What you can do if you have done the blunder already, is refuse to pay, of course, but than you won't get the delivery at all.

So, what I would recommend to anyone living in Brasil and planning to obtain the game, is to either purchase it from a local store (despite the inflated price), or purchase it via Steam digital download. Me personally, I plan on doing the latter once I resolve the issue of getting my money back from MC.

Note for angry people: this is no fault of Monte Cristo, the fault lies with the insanely protectionistic brasilian import policies.

Thanks for replying, Philippe, I know this issue doesn´t have anything to do with MC, but it would be nice if you guys know of the problem.

On a more personal note, I am currently trying to contact your support team and get a refund. Or, I would actually prefer to be able to download the game from Steam, if you guys could find a way around....

Yeah, the base tax is 60%, but they add some more crap (like administrative tax), so it adds up. I don't remember all the figures, but the total amount was over R$100, given the fact that I've bought the limited edition from the pre-order promotion.

Oh, and they've considered not the base price of the game, but the price + tax that they charge during the online sale! So, the taxable amount becomes 39.99 + 6.55 = 46.54 euros.

Yea the import tax laws are just CRAZY for some countries.

I was having a discussion about the price of books for a PnP game in another forum and the guy was talking about how it was outrageous the price the "company" was charging and he was rambling off prices that were over double what the book cost. Well turns out he lived in Australia which also has a pretty high import tax so a lot of things cost more there. So it wasn't really the "company" being greedy but rather his own government.

Since we can't talk about promoting curtain "illegal" activities I'll make a better suggestion.
