This is the link to "Anderson - the big small town", a CitiesXL City Journal.

This journal is the first "official" city journal located in the Simtropolis City Journal section to use CitiesXL.

Please drop by, rate, and comment on the journal and current state of affairs!

Thanks

Mayor C. Lowe

Although the journal is located at the above link, I will now update this entry as well as the journal above.  Enjoy!!

UPDATE 1

Welcome to Anderson.

Anderson was founded in 2009 by a group of investors wanting to create a town to help with the exportation of food to surrounding cities. Anderson has one highway connecting it to other cities in the region with the hopes to add more in the future. The town has a mayor-council form of government with the council approving and updating zoning laws to accommodate growth. The current unemployment rate is less than 3% and new companies are relocating daily. A lower tax structure may be the cause of increases interest in the small town but some pundits caution it can limit future city services also. Only time will tell what the true course will be.
Currently the population of Anderson is 512 with most of those citizens being qualified workers.
Anderson currently has four farms and no industry, but plans are in the work by the town council to add low density to heavy density industry north of town by the end of 2010. Most tax revenue comes from the offices located along Main St. and Humprey St. along with tax revenue generated by three motels.
Please enjoy your stay – we look forward to seeing you again soon!

UPDATE 2

Welcome back!
We take another look at Anderson tonight with a population of just over 10,000; the city is growing fast and moving from town to small city quickly.
Some new developments include the following:
  • New heavy industry entering the city.
  • New manufacturing has entered the city.
  • New retail areas have sprung up in or near major intersections.
  • Due to increased jobs we have added 9,500 new residents – about 50/50 between unqualified and qualified.
  • One new water tower built for continued growth.
  • A new high rise hotel opened in downtown.
  • Two new medical clinics opened on the outskirts of town.
  • A new city dump/landfill for industry and growing demands of residents.
  • The widening of Bellview St. from City Hall to Kingsley Rd.
    • This also adds additional ways to enter town. Until this you could only enter town via Main St.
  • City Council has heard several citizens about the need for new educational or city-wide schools. The council has moved forward in preparing to zone areas for at least two schools within the next year.
  • City Council has voted to build another water tower within the next two years as demand increases.
  • City Council may vote in the next month to build Anderson’s first power plant if the city can assure a renewable source of fuel from other cities in the region.
Please stop by and visit and we look forward to your comments and seeing you soon!

Are we allowed to start an official CXL journal there? I thought we only do it here. Well, I'll get mine up there too sometime today or tomorrow.

Of course you can!   Give the "SC4 Fanboys" a run for their bandwidth!  3.gif

Seriously...   it is a matter of personal choice...   some people prefer a thread based CJ in a forum...  well make your CJ here...   others like a blog style CJ...  so use the CJ section.

The advantage to the CJ section is that all your updates are automatically indexed, and the update stays at the top of each 'post' and the comments then relate directly to that update.

Dirk is still tweaking the CJ Section so stay tuned for future improvements!

    UPDATE 4 and 5

Today we look at just one photo..... I know, I know --- just one...... 1.gif

It's important to show the layout of the area and where the major roads are currently.

    Let's take a look!

    p_01.jpg

    Welcome back to Anderson!
Today we celebrate a population of 35,000 residents spread out over what is becoming a thriving city! All businesses are profitable as Anderson begins to move into world fame! On top of this Anderson just opened a renovated City Hall making more room for all the bureaucrats needed to make the city a success.
    Some upcoming events include:
    •                 Opening a new water tower.
    •                 Zoning a new residential area on top of Humprey Hill (executives).
    •                 The widening of US 21 and State Highway 8.
    •                 The founding of a new small town at the intersection of Highway 8 and 182 (Belton).
    •                 Land being purchased for airport development within the next few months.
Stay tuned for more updates from Anderson!
We are glad you dropped by!

Next time we look at the widening and a new highway which will take your input to plan and build!

    Hurry back soon!

    UPDATE 6

The dilemma……. population growth increases.... Anderson now at over 50,000 residents!
State Highway 8 built 25 years ago (before Anderson was founded) has seen tremendous growth south heading out of town. New residences have set up around the area and a shopping district with restaurants, grocery store chain, and a small indoor shopping center has all opened making the road a nightmare. Two new roads where built last year to accommodate some of the traffic but as you will see in the photos taken – this has not produced the results needed.
State Highway 8 is the main road running through downtown. From north of the city limit it is called Main St. and ends about 4 miles south. It reduces from 4 lanes to two lanes all the way out of the region. The proposal would be one of two things.
    A.      Widen State Highway 8 to Harris Church Rd. (6 miles south of town)
    OR
    B.      Add several new roads to the grid in south Anderson. Helping the flow of traffic and goods (more roads however may cause more congestion).
These proposals are on the table for the citizens to decide as the city council has been deadlocked and the mayor has no veto power yet. You are needed to vote on the course of action needed to help take the congestion away. Look over the photos and leave your comments below. The simple majority will decide the fate of south Anderson and weather the new roads will be built or the existing road widen…… think carefully and help make this difficult choice!
    Good luck!

    UPDATE 8

New expressway opens in Anderson, connecting the growing city of 120,000 residents with other cities in the region.
US Highway 178 just opened this week to happy citizens. Although not completed, the first segment opened after months of work and some delays. The section from Numbville south through Anderson County connects with state highway 16 and a newly built interchange for state highway 377. We have a map of the area to show the detail located below.
Also announced by the Department of Transportation is the recommended route for future Interstate 85. This route will allow for growth along the US 178 corridor while also allowing for new interchanges along the interstate. Some citizens are concerned about how many miles downtown will be from the new highway and will voice those concerns at a planning meeting next month. Funding for the project is slowing building and it is estimated to cost over $3 billion to build the new Interstate.
Stay tuned for more information soon!

    UPDATE 9

    Welcome back to Anderson!
Today’s update has many new photos from the city. The city currently has a population of just over 200,000 residents and a budget of 3,000,000 and growing. Taxes are staying at very low levels as this has helped with the expansions. The current issues remain traffic, police protection, fire protection and education. The areas that have been affected the most remain on Humprey Hill just east of downtown. More city services are being considered for that area.
    Some things you will notice:
    • An increase in middle density housing and high density housing in downtown.
    • The beginnings of Interstate 85 just south.
    • Attempts to stop urban sprawl (you be the judge if it is working…. J)
    • Traffic continues to increase even as new roads are built.
Also we will look at one of Anderson’s “sister cities” – Glenn Cove Beach. This up and coming beach resort is growing and has something to offer – vacation time!
Hope you enjoy the update – please post comments and I look forward to seeing you again soon!!

    UPDATE 10

    Welcome back to Anderson!
A lot has happened since last update. First Anderson has increased in population to now just over 500,000 residents and can truly take its place as one of the largest cities in the region.
Taxes continue to be lower but resource management has played a larger role as the city grows. The first set of skyscrapers has opened just a little south of downtown in what has become the financial district. Many high rises dot Humprey Hill as more resident move to the city. Unemployment has stayed really low with an average of 2% or less.
Anderson first “blue-print” (photos to come) was placed on Main St. just north of the new financial district is will draw huge crowds once opened in a few years.
New expressways have opened and the new interchange (as you will see) for Interstate 85 has been completed.
Enjoy all the photos – I wanted to show some of my favorite views and the “natural” look of the city!

UPDATE 11 (remember the actual jounral is located in the Simtropolis City Journals area)....

    Welcome back to town!
This update will showcase the wonderful city Anderson is becoming. Highways have been built, new sections of housing put up, the turkey has been dressed and is in the oven…. Oh wait – that’s something else….
Anderson has grown to just over 500,000 residents now. The city is bursting at the seams as it pushy out towards the smaller out lining towns including Belton. New subdivisions have popped up as the city manager and mayor fight to stop urban sprawl.
Can they do it…..? Only time may tell! Give your feedback on the current state of affairs and your suggestions may be used to develop the city more.
This is a HUGE 45 photo update so sit back and enjoy as we travel throughout the city looking at some interesting things along the way!!

While we wait for Anderson to begin planning the brand new Anderson International Airport, I thought we could take a look at some other cities that are related to Anderson. The Anderson Mayor visited a sister city of Anderson’s named Mount Tabor. Located in the eastern part of the country, Mount Tabor has become a huge economic power producing tons of fuel and oil. The city is growing and currently has a population of 512,000 residents. The oil is produce on some 15 oil fields throughout the area and pollution is a huge concern.
Mount Tabor is named for the Mountain located just west of the downtown area. Although when these photos were taken, Mount Tabor was currently building several new skyscrapers as more oil and electric companies have moved their headquarters there from other cities across the nation.
Mount Tabor currently produces all oil for Anderson. While Anderson only uses 20 tokens of oil currently, Mount Tabor sells any excess to other cities in the area. The current production will ramp up even more upon completion of the Killgrove Oil Fields in west Mount Tabor in early 2010.
The amazing part about this city may be that Mount Tabor is not serviced by any major highways of interstates. Although several intercity expressways make their way across the landscape it is still uncertain if the city will get an Interstate anytime soon. So far there has been no need for it as the freight into and out of the city moves well without it.

I play SimCity4 not CitiesXL. Does Citesxl let you make highways signs for your game, because I saw a few of your signs that were custom made.
