Ditro's Lot Thread

Hello everyone.

So, I have made a few lots lately, which have had their share of plusses and minusses.  I suppose a step in the right direction would be to have a lot thread to iron out any issues before I upload them, so.... here it is!

I am continuing with my modifications to the Maxis University buildings.  The next one up is the "Classrooms" building.

This is what I have done so far on a 3x2 lot.

^A little stylizing with the front plaza.

^And a patio area in the back

This building could really be anything, so I might upload a few versions.   But this is my first model of it.  It is separate from that driveway in the front (another one of my projects).

Any suggestions/comments?

Also, some people do not like that my buildings names are "Open Grass Area."  How do I change the name?  Do I need another program?

For the Lot names and descriptions (as well as other useful things) I suggest you try LEProp which you can find on the STEX here: https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=21350. It isn't very difficult to use and makes changing these things quick and easy.

Another question: I noticed that if I change the name of the lot in the game (in the query box), the next time I run the game the name changes back to the default one. Why is this?

Did you Apply changes then Save DAT? After you make changes with the LE Prop, you have to do both in that order to save the changes you've made. Clicking just Save DAT will not solve the problem.

Nice work going on here! I like how you lotted the fountain with the garden square, nice touch. I like everything so far, but a little more custom flora, like io_bg said, would make it even better.

Sorry, I should have explained that better. I am talking about some lots in general that I have downloaded that do not keep the name change that I give it in game, and I was wondering why that happened. But whenever I work on the above lot that I pictured, I always click Apply before Save DAT.

Also, yea, I added a custom deciduous tree that loses its leaves instead of the Maxis ones, but I think I will keep the cherry trees. So that should be the only dependency for this unless I add other things.

Any other suggestions?  I'd rather take the heat now then after I upload it  (If you've seen my first two uploads. lol).

Also, I don't see any way to rotate the "props" that are the actual buildings that I have relotted.  Is there a way to rotate them?
