Acer is an old, reliable brand, so they must have something going for them. If you have a model you are interested in you might find a review that has been done on it. ZDnet, Cnet, and PCWorld all do testing of hardware.

600 USD will get you a decent laptop, maybe not with the largest screen, and highend compontents. But you don't need highend for SC4.

ok. i think i will buy this:

    Toshiba Satellite A500-14F -

    Intel Core 2 Duo P8700 / 2.53 GHz ( Dual-Core )

    320 GB - Serial ATA-150 - 5400 rpm

    16" TFT

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 - 1 GB

i think this is a very good laptop.

    I have a Toshiba Satellite A505 running Windows 7.

    Intel Core2 Duo T6600 @ 2.20Ghz CPU

    4.00GB RAM

    454GB Hard Disk

Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset Family Graphics

128MB dedicated graphics memory, 1759MB Total graphics memory

....My big question here is, Will this lack of a series graphics card hinder the performance of SC4?  I used to play on my desktop but stopped a couple years ago.  I want to get back into it but am not sure if this new laptop will handle it.  What do you think?  Thanks.

SC4 will run on the most primitive video card available today.. in fact I'd advise not to "overvideo" because that GPU will gobble up battery juice like crazy. The new intel processors have a feature that lets them have 2 video processors and it will switch the "high powered" one off when you don't need it (which is 95% of the time unless you're a real gamer) Don't let SC4 drive your video choice as it's quite easy to run in general and the game runs acceptably in software rendering too)

Frankly, if I were buying a machine to run this game I would want a machine that was state-of-the-art at the time the last update was released, six years ago.  New modern machines with fancy video cards don't do well with legacy games.  Legacy equipment shouldn't be that hard to find, but make sure you have lots of hard disk.  Best O/S is probably XP SP 3 although the game ran fine on '95.

In any case, the only support you might get would be here.

You don't need a top of the line laptop to play SC4, you will want to however get a laptop that has dedicated graphics memory. You will also want to invest in a decent cooling pad. Laptops are very good at overheating. And keeping the system cool will help prevent the computer from crashing.
