Hotel's broken/bugged?

75k folks, every hotel I put in dies within 3 months, no matter where I put it, but I have to keep replacing them or my businesses go belly up.

All I can see is the hotel is not profitable.  From the smallest to the largest, business or luxury, I can't keep it alive.

Any ideas?  Are they bugged?  "Not profitable" is not enough information for me to properly understand.

    You misunderstand...I have ONE HOTEL.

    One.

It dies, then I have zero.

I build a new one.  It dies because it's unprofitable.  I bulldoze it the empty lot and make a new one.

    One.

There are different types of hotels. First check your businesses and make sure you are putting down the right hotel. Next hotels must be on a road connected to a city link and the road must have a strong trade route on it. Its been awhile since I played the beta so I don't remember the exact term.

I wasn't aware they absolutely had to be placed on a road that is also a city link.

Is that the blue lines that radiate away from the hotel when they're placed?

I only know of  business and luxury hotels, and the relative sizes...are there more categories?

My businesses only need business hotels.

I have a hotel that's on the main road leaving town, but it's a LONG way from out of town...it's more in the center of the map.  What do you mean by strong trade routes?  What am I looking for in placing a hotel in regards to keeping it alive?

Edit: Thanks for the replies, btw.  I just extended an avenue all the way across the map and to an intercity boundry.  I then plopped the hotel on it, near the city.  A light blue and a dark brown line extend off into the city a good distance, but I can't tell what they represent.  None of them go down the avenue leaving town.

The hotel was 0% profitable, being built, then was 52% profitable.  It's in trouble and in 3 months will be bankrupt.

On the right side there options to show you things in your city. One of the options will show you green lines on the roads that come in from your city link. This shows you how far a visitor is willing to travel into your city for commerce/trade. As your city grows and your roads get bigger the green will extend farther into your city showing people will travel farther in for you goods and services. If your hotel is not on a strong green (meaning not faded np green) it will fail. Business hotel sounds right. Sorry I can't be more precise because I decide not to buy the game so I don't remember all of the terms. Hopefully someone else can supply the correct terms. I'm just trying to point you in the right direction.

I think that the brown line shows where unqualified workers are comming from, the blue for qualified workers.  It's their commute to work at the hotel, same for other businesses.  I think 4.gif

There's another colour line which looks to shows trade routes out of the city, I forget the colour though.

I've stuck my hotels in amongst my offices, and they seem ok.  A bit fragile, but never actually die.

I've started 3 different cities - all now around 20K pop. Hotels, no matter what kind, are always sitting at 60%. Seems maybe broken...though I do try to build them in related areas. It just seems odd that they don't budge up or down.

I think this might be a concern of tax rates. A lot of times I've found myself puzzled as to why things weren't building and then I remembered that 3% tax hike I exacted on the business sector thirty turns ago. Lowered the rates, boom, hotels, that stayed.

Profitability is almost always a direct result of tax rates and job vacancies. If they have a lot of vacant jobs or are suffering from high tax rates, they will lose money and fail. Hope this helps!

from what i have observed with hotels, which could very well possibly be bugs and or oversight by the developers is that there seems to be a relationship between the quality of hotel rooms (low and high quality)  and the density of the blocks it surrounds. From all observations to get the best (but not 100%) profit is to mix the low/high quality rooms based on your current office footprint. Also you will see temporary improvement in hotel profit when there is construction area's around its coverage radius (this seems to be short lived and very rarely reported in hotel satisfaction popups).

All the points previously covered here regarding what type of road link it has may be valid but im yet to see much of a marked  relationship there.

As far as the development oversight. i see a greater overall improvement in the "hotel statisfaction" globally when holiday  hotels come into play, perhaps this could be volume that is driving up the average, as you place far more holiday hotels than business hotels

Without a MC insider to comment its really all going to be hit and miss as everyones observations are going to be different based on there planning creativity or lack thereof.
